I think it is wishful thinking on economist Tony Seba's part.

Just think of all of the lost fuel taxes that go towards the repair of the highway infrastructure....

Oups.... Politicians won't let that happen.... Big taxes on electricity will be needed....

Range is still an issue, even for 300 mile recharges - what if I want to go to Colorado to ski? 300 miles doesn't even get me across Kansas, let alone to the slopes...so a 2 day drive just to get there?

What if I want to go see the grandkids in West Carolina? 1100 miles one way, and no - I'm not going to fly.... the airline industry is even worse than trains and busses anymore.

Plus there is no way our current electrical grid can sustain all these proposed electrical cars hitting the grid en masse.....

Most power plants run on coal and natural gas....they will need huge infrastructure improvements - and those take time and money to build.

8 years? no way....this guys been reading too many Popular Science mags from the 50's

Cheeze louize, why do people have to bring politics into EVERYTHING? this is talking about science and a sea change in peoples ownership of petroleum fueled cars, it has absolutely nothing to do with ****ing politics.

Who do you think regulates this sort of thing? Scientists?
We aren't running out of oil.... this would be a political battle. Democrats seem to be in favor of clean energy, as previous administration made several cuts on the coal industry. New administration removed several barriers that were in place, but the damage was done, people moved on to something else. But yes, you'd have several Oil Companies with DEEP pockets saying, "do that and you've lost our support" - that's called politics.

I am as conservative as they come. I am for clean energy. But we have yet to find anything that delivers energy as well as fossil fuels. And no we are not running out of oil. That is another debate I do not want to get into here. Look at out MINIs they produce more HP then some of the muscle cares of the 60's. We are still squeezing more energy out out of gasoline, and we are just now starting with diesel. Also our cars are much cleaner then ever.

I wish everything was not turned into a political battle. They seek to divid us so they can push their agenda. Its time we stoped letting them. It truly is about control. Scare us so we will give into stupid stuff that does nothing, like carbon taxes. But it does give them power and lines their pockets.

Screw them lets go have fun with our Mini's.

    Live brave live free!!!

OMG! I'm frigg'n ordering this book. Thanks Dave, not that I need to read a book to learn how to not give a F****. I've got that down pretty well on my own. But, I have to have this for my library and as a suggested reading for a couple of close family members... And, it's only 229 pages to boot!

There are those who may need to, Chuck.... Particularly all those who need to stop suggesting how we all should live from day-to-day. God help us, but they're out there.

Won't happen. When all the current electric cars are selling at a loss. Tesla $16k loss on every car. Then there is cheap oil, so cheap gas.
Autonomous cars won't survive the lawyers. If you're in an accident it the cars fault. Everyone will be suing, the other driver, the other car company, and the owner. Why would the owner need car insurance, nothing that happens would be their fault. I don't think anyone but google has that kind of money.
