I don't think they're all that different. They're both Getrag I think. Anyways, I was asking really because most of what I can find for R56 MTF, be it Redline Synthetic or Amsoil Synthetic, is mostly all synthetic and I can't find any definite answers on the BMW MTF being synthetic or not. When it comes to Manual transmissions does it matter like it does with say a car engine that was designed to use conventional instead of synthetic? I know my in my older cars, when synthetic came out I jumped on it and started to use it right away, but also noticed how much noisier the engines were and after some reading I discovered it's due to the synthetic being smaller at the molecular level and can fit thru tight spaces easier and not providing the same pressure when traveling thru oil pathways in the engine. Do the same principles apply? Maybe I'm reading too much into it.... :nonod:

I think you will be fine using the Redline MTL. But the question is, why are you going to change that MINI lifetime transmission lube????

I ran Redline MTL in my R56 it was better for daily driving and I stopped getting a nochy shifter during track days under high heat. I was super pleased with it.

Because I have trust issues..... and I want my MINI to last 275k and still be functioning before I sell it and move on to my next obsession :beer
If my 91 Honda can make it than my MINI should to right? Right.....

Amsoil is very quickly becoming my lube of choice for all applications. I've found that I have to replace far less in between oil changes compared to other top oil's on the market. I'm talking instead of around 1/4 qt. per month in between changes, I'll use maybe 1/2 a qt. for the whole 5k miles, and when I change the oil it still looks fairly clean.
I think it's safe to assume the MTF will perform well when compared to the competition also.

Not everyone Dave. I had no problems with it. One thing about MTL is that it has friction modifiers that do go away as time goes by. If one changed their fluid at reasonable intervals they wouldn't have a problem.

A friend who uses it in his BMW says he can feel when it is time for a change. Seems to get harder to shift when cold. He changes & it's all good again. Justa my .02.
