I just read that Kobiashi in a Toyota P1 has broken the lap record by nearly 2sec, and Q2 isn't over yet...

Once again the BOP has required the Corvettes to decrease the intake size. It gets smaller every year. I'm surprised they're not required to suck air through a soda straw.

Refresh my memory, who did Kobayashi drive for in f-1? I know he had a big set on him, no fear at all.

Regarding the question of where/how to watch, you can buy the race via the 25 hour app or on the FIAWEC website. Note if you follow the enire WEC season you can also purchase the season including Le Mans via that app ($35). On this weekend the app (for some reason) converts to the 24 hour app. The app and website can be a little confusing.. but once you figure them out you can have the live race (no commercials) on TV and use 4 other devices for live scoring, feeds etc. IMO way better than TV coverage... but not as good as motoGP app. All is streamed.. so need internet connection and way to stream/hook to TV unless you want to watch on that specific device.

    Lifted from blackflag.jalopnik.

Full article (w/ the half dozen or so links missing from the snip below, and more): Your Guide To Enjoying All 24 Hours Of Le Mans In 2017

How Do I Watch The Race?

Let’s get the most obvious question out of the way: how do you tune into the race itself? Fortunately, you don’t even need a TV, although the online stream is a bit fiddlier than it has been in years’ past.

Here’s how you can tune into the race if you’re watching on TV in the U.S., starting on Saturday, June 17 (all times Eastern):

    Fox Sports 1: 8:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. (Sat.)

Fox Sports Go only: 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. (Sat.)

    Fox Sports 2: 1:00 p.m. (Sat.) - 1:00 a.m. (Sun.)
    Fox Sports 1: 1:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. (Sun.)

May other sports have mercy on this broadcast and not preempt it a bunch of times like last year. Alternately, the race will be streamed in its entirety online on Fox Sports Go if you’d rather spare yourself the channel changes and likelihood of Fox’s main TV feed screwing over racing fans yet again.

The World Endurance Championship itself has a paid, commercial-free live stream here (which is also accessible on the WEC app for iOS and Android) of both the qualifying sessions and the race itself. However, it’s been more finicky to use than in years past for some reason, requiring me to mess around with different browser settings before it would ever open every time I’ve tried to use it this year. If you go this route, allow some extra time to tinker with browser settings or restart your computer in case it’s not working for you.

You want to watch a few onboards, even if it’s just for a little while. It’s completely surreal to see these cars speed through zones of complete darkness late at night, with only their own and their competitors’ lights in some parts on track.

Several teams will be running onboard live-streams, both through the WEC’s streaming site/app as well as on their own. The Ford Chip Ganassi Racing Team will have their own onboards from all four Ford GTs and garage cam on YouTube.

Le Mans’ official live timing screen is here, and a fan has made a more detailed live timing screen with sector splits here. If you just need audio, Radio Le Mans will have coverage here.

If you’re interested in any of the other events happening at the circuit this weekend such as the Road to Le Mans or Carrera Cup support races, r/WEC is a fantastic resource, and the full on-track schedule can be found here.

I haven't been following super close this year. Looks like the Ganassi Fords aren't doing so hot this year.

Scuttlebutt is that the ACO is looking a P-Car vs F-Car race this year. Hence the Corvettes getting a small air inlet.

Ya lost me with the P-car F-car nomenclature.

Team is owned by Jackie Chan.

    P-Car = Porsche

    F-Car = Ferrari

Stuck at work for an application go live. Since my job is to basically just babysit the developers, I'm sitting in a conference room streaming the race on a 70" screen

If you were to just check in to see who won you might think "meh, Porsche won again, must have been fairly straight forward." Mmm, no.

There was only 1 LMP1, Porsche #2, on the overall podium and it was running 56th at one point (I think), second from last, and had to drive back to the front. Prior to that the race leading Porsche 919 broke down about 3 hours from the finish and then an LMP2 car ran at the front overall for a big chunk of the race. The #2 Porsche didn't take the lead back for LMP1 until roughly an hour from the finish.

2nd overall went to one of the Jackie Chan LMP2s and 3rd overall to another LMP2. The 2nd place finisher in LMP1 class, and the only other LMP1 to even finish the race, was the only Toyota to finish and it was just 9th overall.

Corvette fans will have had synchronized aneurysms on the last couple laps. That was painful...
