So here is a fun fact: My wife works part time for IMSA as a race incident logger and pit communicator in race control. Since we live in Austin she also works all of the COTA races (IMSA, F1, MotoGP, etc...). She travels for IMSA races though. She'll be at Watkins Glen next.
Seems like the JCWs (barring any other incidents) have the advantage in the rain/wet. It's iffy how wet it will really be race day, though.
Bah. I'm out of the forum game with linking pics. Whatever. It was just a screen cap of the 100% rain forcast in Watkins Glen Saturday.
Thanks for trying Redbeard. I love racing in the rain. It really equalizes the cars & brings the drivers talent to the fore. :arf:
The Glen with rain is going to favor FWD and AWD cars. The ST class won't be passing GT cars but your gonna see a bit of a field swap.
Looks like Team Octane who've run MINIs successfully for years now in the Canadian Touring Car Championship have entered one of their cars to the roster at the Glen this year. So, 4 MINIs this time.
I've been watching qualifying and the place looks completely dry. Wonder what it'll be like this afternoon for the Conti race...
Did anyone else watch the Conti race? I was as confused as the announcers re the MINIs' pace in the dry vs wet. For anyone who doesn't want to know how it turned out until you can watch the race broadcast (FS1 - Sunday, July 9, 2017 – 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM EDT) -- SPOILERS BELOW: - - - - - - - - - - - - If I ignore the time lost, mostly to red flag, I thought it was a great race. Esp. fun ending for MINI fans. How cool is it the MINIs that came home 1st and 2nd in class (10th and 11th overall) were piloted to the flag by brothers (Mat and Mark Pombo)? The other team car was 5th in ST while the Team Octane entry struggled for pace and ended 17th.
