Diffusers are becoming more and more prominent in high end racing. I get it, they can increase downforce and therefore improve performance, but the aesthetics leave a lot to be desired.

Here's the new BMW M8 GTE. Not bad.

And here is the diffuser end...

Is it just me, or is that downright fugly?

I'm sure it's functional and it's probably fast but I don't know whether I can even give this the "but it's a race car" pass.

Like a lot of paintings, it looks better from further away?

It's like the diffuser engineers told the car designers....

"OK, but from underneath the bumper its our territory"....

    It's all function over style....

It looks like they backed over a bunch of boxes of fluorescent lights!

One small punt from behind & those fluorescent lights & boxes will be all over the track. Goodbye downfarce.

Here's the a$$ end of a Gallardo Super Trofeo I shot a while back. A little better looking than the Bimmer...

they are getting bigger every year - top 2016, bottom 2017 - had to move that engine forward so the car can keep up with bogus "production" cars like the Ford GT (bottom)

If you'd have watched the the IMSA race from VIR you'd have seen some punting. No NASCARP involved.

Half of those look like they were pieced together by a home DIY guy with a table saw and glue. You'd think with the cost of those cars they'd do a formed unit atleast, but if it got cracked or broken during practice they'd have to replace the whole thing compared to just grabbing the ole glue bottle I guess..

They didn't move the engine forward. They went from rear engine to mid engine. Talk about a bogus "production" car.

Wait... you mean this is the finished car? This isn't the shot that they took right after a technician said "Hold up... I forgot to put the bumper cover on... give me a minute to clip it on!"

Exactly, and you shouldn't be able to see the tires on a low-slung race car from this angle without some missing bodywork.....unless it's an open wheeler... :biggrin5:
