So just recently I finally for an accessport. I'm running the stage 2 tune at 92 octane with a AEM Cold Air intake, OBX Catless downpipe, and forge BOV. After A few days of driving it and a oil change to Castrol 0-w40. When I accelerate hard from 2nd 3rd and 4th after about 4500 rpm you hear popping from the exhaust while accelerating and a very slight loss of power or boost feeling. Any idea what it could be. It doesn't feel like a coil or misfire especially since I had a coil go bad recently and changed them all out to oem. Sent from my SM-G935U using Tapatalk
Get rid of the accessport. Its going to kill your car. This is not a joke. There is a reason they dropped MINI support. They couldn't figure it out.
That's nonsense. They stopped making it for MINI because they couldn't crack the Engine Control Unit on the N18 engine so they could reprogram it through the OBDll port, like on the N14 engine Accessport. That limited their possible market share, making it unprofitable to make and support. I've had one for seven years with no problems. If anything the AP canned tunes are a little tame so as to err on the safe side.
No manic tune, the downpipe has been fine for the last 8 months before the accessport. There are no leaks or stress crack on the down pipe or gasket. But after digging through my engine bay all morning my HPFP could be on it's way out because it looks like it might be leaking. Sent from my SM-G935U using Tapatalk
What codes pop up? If your HPFP is failing it'll throw a code. The main issue is that you've got a ticking time bomb for an engine and you're messing with it. #betteroffstock
No codes yet. I don't hear any metal pings like it's knocking or sparking early. The timing is fine through out the band. So it seems like it's something with either fuel, coils or plugs. I already removed the tune and unmarried the accessport. On a stock map or no accessport married it's 100% fine Sent from my SM-G935U using Tapatalk
It's a possibility. I forgot to mention that on a stage 1 map a lot better than stage 2. It pops once then stays fine and only happens in second and third. Maybe a bad injector? Sent from my SM-G935U using Tapatalk
Take them SU carbs apart & put in some bigger jets. Sounds lean to me. It's an old school answer, but it hits on what may be your problem. Also check that fuel filter.
I didn't even think about the fuel filter. It's probably well over due. They're complete stock. What ever came with the 09 JCW. Sent from my SM-G935U using Tapatalk
Says a guy who can't work on SU carbs. I've had both I like the SU carbs, but Webers have more tune-ability.
An old acquaintance of mine ran a pair of split Webers on his racing Mini. Back on topic: My car doesn't have carbs & runs like it does?
Nope. On hard accel there shouldn't be any popping in an R53 either. If you let off the throttle that is a different story. If yours is popping when your foot is on the gas you need to have your tune checked.
