    Here's something trivial to ponder.

Since Force India have already secured 4th in the Constructors' Championship they're now talking about running their "riskier" development parts for the last races to get a head start on 2018.

Someone did a bit of math and figured out that "With 4th place in the WCC secured & nothing more to gain, every point Force India gets will add $5161 to their F1 entry fee for 2018."

I'm going to bet the former explanation is more important but the guy has a point. On the other hand, isn't the chance of attracting a new sponsor by finishing strong worth more than $5161 per point?

    But here's a better question.

Ferrari are threatening to quit F1 again. FWIW, the reasons this time seem to include both the FIA's watered down 2021 engine formula and a complaint about Liberty NASCAR-izing F1.

But Ferrari threatening to quit F1 unless they get their way is so unsurprising I'd almost call it traditional. "Hey, Ferrari haven't threatened to quit lately...something's wrong...what's going on?"

This question posted this morning by BBC Sport got me thinking: "Can you imagine #F1 without Ferrari?"

Yes, I can, and I'm not sure I think it would be such a bad thing for F1. Bad for the commercial side, yes, since lots of fans would immediately drop out, but bad for the sporting aspect? Hmmm...

All their special treatment hasn’t gotten them any championships recently, so one has to wonder if they’re really all that great a team. They get more money just for being Ferrari than some teams get for their entire budget, and they still aren’t dominating. They get to veto rules they don’t like, and they still aren’t dominating.

To me that says either they’re really inefficient, or just lazy, or frankly just bad at their jobs and just burn money until something works.

I don’t want them to leave, but I do think they need to be humbled a bit.

I'm sure Liberty realize Ferrari are highly unlikely to actually quit without extreme change to what F1 represents to them. Even so, Liberty can't ignore that those red cars draw a large audience of some of the world's most passionate fans, despite their lack of recent championships. Not saying they need to do whatever Ferrari ask, but they'll probably give Marchionne's demands more consideration than they should have to.

Meanwhile, Williams' driver short list just got a little shorter with Massa out of the running.

For this year's lineup Williams were stuck late in the game with very few good options. Now they have four even without Massa: Di Resta, Kibuca, Wehrlein and Kvyat. Who will get the seat?

I'm surprised to admit I feel like Kubica tops the list.

I'd love to see Kubica get the seat.

Just noticed, no live TV coverage of qualifying, only streaming.
And after watching a few minutes of P3, unless they are having some audio problems, it appears that Diffey, Hobbs and Matchett are not commenting.

The only interesting part of this race was to see how far the Hamster could move forward after starting at the back.

True to form for pretty much any F1 race these days, once you get in the lead unless you screw up or have a mechanical failure, the race is yours to lose.

Good move by Vettel to grab the lead in the first turn, but it's clear that Hammy's Merc is the fastest car on the track - still.

Did anyone else catch Hamilton's downshift at the corner he spun at. Rev light went full on at the moment the spin started.
    Grabbed one to many gears?

I missed that, but his car sure did lose it's rear end. I was thinking too much rear brake bias in the brake by wire system. I'm sorry he screwed up his quali, but it made the race more interesting to watch. I enjoyed his drive carving through the field.
