You might not need to register your battery. Have a look at the negative battery cable, if there is a little black box right next to the terminal clamp, then you should register the battery, if not, then you can pass on battery registration. I've heard that cars with comfort access have the battery monitor on the negative terminal.
Both the Wife's R56 and the R58 have the box. I replaced the battery and did not register it and its been doing fine but on the wife's car I dont want to take any chances. I hate to sound cheep but everyone in town want $100 to do it. I may buy this tool. https://www.ecstuning.com/b-schwaben-by-foxwell-parts/professional-bmw-mini-scan-tool/014020sch01a~scf/
I can’t get Carly to work with ether my ELM or Kiwi3 reader. I’m giving up on readers that use phones and iPads. I ordered the one from ECS. I wish Carly would have worked.
My 2009 R55S had Comfort Access, no little box, and mated happily with a Walmart battery without being 'registered'. It's all very confusing.
Make sure you reset the choke and adjust the carbs for the new battery and top of the high beam headlight fluid.
My 2009 didn't seem to care when I replaced it's battery, everything still works as before, didn't even lose my radio presets or trip computer info.
HiHo- HiHe it's off to wash the MINI. And then it will go to look at a new Christmas light display tonight, with the top down of course...
Not today but yesterday. I took my brother-in-law for a ride in the Helmet.:arf::devil: Last year he was very insulting but thats not really new, most of the time he is a ok guy though. Anyway he asked what made a coupe different then my other Mini, he hadn't seen it yet, I was trying to tell him but he kept interrupting. I said lets go take a look at it. Said he liked it and that the interior looked like a lingerie shop. I offered a ride......:biggrin5: It was 54 degrees so I was having trouble getting the tiers to hookup so I was trying to be easy on the pedal. As we accelerated past 80 towards a stop he was grabbing anything he could find to hold on to, you know when all you drive is 4 door sedans and are not the one driving it makes you really feel the rush. I calmly said it has very good brakes about a second before I nailed the brakes and stoped well before I needed. He took it well, he said his balls were in his stomach after that.:lol: When we got out he said" nice car but I bet the cops love to pull you over". When we went in he told everyone he had it scared out of him and his balls still had not come down. Last year at the dinner table he was smart about my Indian not being done, he doesn't ride and has never restored anything. This year he started it agin,. When asked if it was running I said I needed one drain plug. He smiled and said you said that last year. My wife said dont you have pictures. I passed around my phone with the finished bike on it. I said I did it all even the paint. When challenged I showed pictures of my wife making my paint booth. That shut that down. After dinner is when he asked and was a little smart about the helmet. The ride shut that down. Sorry for the long post but I was dreading Thanksgiving because of last year. I am a big believer in family and my In-laws are my family now. I like my brother in law. We are just very different. It was a GOOD THANKSGIVING!:lol::lol:
Milltek cat back resonated ordered for the dark silver fun car. Gotta boost the economy where you can even when the car is about to go into storage for 4 months. ECS had a deal I could not ignore.
It was over 60 degrees in Chicagoland today, so a quick wash, and then swapped to snow tires for both MINIs.. I'll be storing a car for a friend over the winter starting tomorrow, so I wont have much room to do work on mine for a while.
a couple of days ago I gave the Runt a good bath inside and out. Because it was going to be sunny for a few days I parked it on the street so I could drive the Helmet. I live at the end of a cove. Well they came to suck up all the leaves my wife had racked to the curb. They mulch them when they suck them up. Well the Runt was covered in mulched leafs! I had to rewash the car. When I opened the door some got inside so I got to vacuum it agin! Its safely in the garage tonight and the helmet is next to my wife R56 in the driveway.
My MINI has a garage mate for the winter.. Storing it for a friend. Space is going to be tight for a while.
after 2 years of not finding my recycling center sticker, I finally got some new ones, and it was high time to clean out the garage. About 15 gallons of oil, 4 gallons antifreeze, several sets of brake disks, drive axles, a-arms, Koni FSDs with rotten lowering sprinngs, anti roll bars, down links, pulleys, control arms, you name it, it was in my garage. garage cleanup
oh, and when I got home, the car got a well earned vacuuming. There were about 20 card board boxes under all that junk, but rust flakes got to the carpet in spite of all that. There was actually even more scrap metal in the car than this image shows. The ride height went down to stancer territory
Actually yesterday, but GIR finally made blacktop after 6 months. Started as a suspension upgrade and worked out to be few other issues along the way. Kudos to the members here, a wealth of knowledge that saved me a lot of headaches and even more $$$$. I had some time over this holiday to turn wrenches, took it out to check ride height and had to take a pic.
