On my 2008 R55 Clubman (Not an S) the care is cranking Very slow the last 2 weeks. I charged it with a standard battery charger and its Much better.
I Only drive about 2 miles to work and it normally does not run more than 10 min in the morning and 10 going home. But the headlights and heater are on both ways.
Charging seems to be needed every few days now.
I am thinking since the Battery is getting old I should replace it.
I keep reading about IBS and if no IBS, then the battery needs registered.
I do not feel I have IBS (Intelligent Battery Sensor) since I do not have a module on the Pos or Neg terminal.
    Would that be true?
OK so "if" I don't have IBS I would still need to register it right?
Can ONLY a Dealer do this registration?
    If not who can?
    Please help and Teach me.

If you don't have the IBS & I doubt you do,then no you do not need to register your new battery.

I know you didn't ask, but here is some advice. Driving 10 minutes to work & back puts you in the severe service category. I wouldn't go longer than 3,000 miles or one year under those conditions for oil changes.

Just in case, this is what the IBS looks like.

    And to clarify;

    If IBS, THEN needs registered.

If NO IBS, just plug and play.

You could stop at an auto parts store and have them test it. How old is it?

    Battery

Hey guys thanks for the great info.
The battery is 6 years old. in 2010 I got a replacement battery at the dealer under warranty because the sensor at the rear door malfunctioned and kept draining it too much. The dealer said the charge/discharge cycle was too much work on the battery and prematurely wore it out.
Since I did get a good 6 years from it I would feel better not getting stranded with it Dead. The cold weather is accelerating my decision.
Thoughts on Battery brands to get?
Dealer is quite proud of their $235 Exide.
Autozone is pushing Duralast H5-DLG at $179.99
Sears is pushing DieHard Advanced Gold Group 47 at $133.99
Batteries Plus has Duracell Ultra Group 47 for $162.00
Advanced Auto has the AutoCraft Gold
    etc.....

    Experience/preferences?

I'd buy the Sears, cheap is OK. There are only a couple of battery makers that make all those batteries. I bought the one for lady Babs clubster from Advanced Auto Parts.

6 years old.....they don't last forever. Replace it with an AGM battery from Sears.

I second the Sears AGM batteries (Diehard Platinum IIRC). I have run them in my diesel truck and the wife's vehicle for years without problem.
