Hi,I own a mini 2004 cooper convertible, just put new 2 new roof cables on,and new motor for roof, and new gates,I'm at a loss now the roof retract to sun roof position, the gates release, but the roof won't start going back, the windows drop down as normal,I've checked the boot sensor, been around and checked fuses all seem fine, please has anyone any ideas???,I can manually retract the roof when the gates release, I'm at a dead end as to what else to check, any help would be most welcome thanks

    I'm here.

Hmmm. Does the hydraulic pump make any sound at all?
If you manually retract, will it go UP under power?
Does the little light on the top button blink when you hold it to retract the roof?

If it was a sensor issue, it wouldn't unlatch.
Sounds like a hydraulic pump issue, or electrical connection / fuse for the pump.

pump is located in the left side rear, accessed through the removable gray felt cover.
I'd have to look up the fuses, you can do that in your manual.

I DID have a period where my hydraulics didn't work. After sitting for a few months, it fixed itself. I have no idea why. I changed NOTHING.

Very long shot here but you said it worked and then quit? Close the top and then, cycle all windows up and down, then try to lower the top. Granted only time that worked for me was when I already had the top down and had disconnected the battery while installing some lights and couldn't get the top back up.. but easy enough to give a shot..
Also I know you said you checked the sensor in the boot, but have you tried just putting a piece of tape on it to hold it down and try all this?

Hi mate, not 100%,took it to mini specialist, they changed the gate on the left, and it worked a dream,I had changed both cables at same time which I got from BMW, the motor was working, but under load was no good so got a reconditioned one for £100,its been a nightmare, going to be on BMW case Monday, have u a 2004 cabriolet? Do u have problems with your seatbelts twisting? Haven't tried yet but looks tricky to un twist, ma wife told me hers was twisted,so will have a look tomorrow, don't think the roof has done bad ,first time anything been changed since 2004

What sensors can be faulty if roof won't unlatch?
My roof goes into sunroof mode but won't unlatch. Cables, relays, mechanism, fuses all good. If I use power from battery on motors roof unlatch and goes down/up. 2 sensors on the boot bypassed, boot closed (3 sensor pressed in). Roof module replaced. Only some hall sensors left but can't see them without stripping the roof :/
Any ideas which sensor could be responsible for unlatching?

    Kind regards,
    Raf

I am no expert on convertible tops. The Bentley manual has several pages on the subject. Here a few maybe it will help. Let us know what you find. Sorry the pages did not load in order. If you do your own work I highly recommend getting a Bentley manual B48EEBEE-48A9-4C54-984C-254BF42E52C6.jpeg 2D4EDE91-409E-4F49-AB3C-0EDBE17A7CFC.jpeg 36E71D30-6BFA-4DAF-B292-236659D99ABF.jpeg
