Can a Newer Auto Trans be used in an older MINI?

I have a 2008 mini Cooper Clubman S with 220,000 miles on it. I have started having problems with the Aisin 6 speed automatic transmission reving as it shifts between 3rd and 4th gear. While I'm looking at the possibility of replacing the valve body I am also looking at possibly getting a used transmission. Question, can a newer Aisin 6 speed automatic transmission of a 2011-2013 MINI be used to replace a 2008 model automatic transmission? I believe they are the same transmission from 2008 through 2013 but there may be coding issues or slight differences. Please let me know.

No idea, but there are others her in M/A who can probably give better advice than I, as My MINIs are all Gen 1s [not 2s]. Good luck.

Looks like MINI made a change...

But it also looks like there was an overlap...

Why is the dealer the absolute last resource people turn to with these cars? I'm sure they can tell you whether there is a software issue, I know of no hardware incompatibility......

It's possible you might need the dealer to update the software depending on the year of the transmission you find. I think this is a good idea for a high mileage car actually, and the direction I'll go if I need to with mine.

A visit to your dealer might give you everything you need to know before you go hunting for the parts......

I think the op thought there would be a wealth of helpful info to be found here. So his answer is yes & no.

Try calling eMINIpats.com one of the forum sponsors & asking Steven. He is my favorite MINI parts guy & very helpful.

Why don't you just replace the car... it'll come with a new transmission. It's getting close to time.
