I need to pull a PRW harmonic damper off of the crank of a R53. I can't find a puller tool with a bolt circle big enough to fit. Looking online for a tool, the size of the bolt plate is never given. Anyone know of a tool that fits? The distance between two holes (one side of the triangle) is about 3 5/8 in. Most universal tools go up to about 3 1/4 in.
I dont think what E mini parts will sell you is what you need since this is a non stock damper. Why are you removing it? What the engine shop did was take some aluminum stock and build a adapter that bolts to the damper and has the smaller bolt pattern on it to be able to pull the crank damper off. thats what you need.
I found someone with one to borrow, but if that doesn't work I might see about having an adapter plate fabricated. Thanks for the idea.
Then get a press tool and drive it all the way on? Usually a bolt with some greased washers is plenty enough to drive it on.
FYI: This tool works to remove it, but you have to use the longer bolt/greased washer method to reinstall. Wilmar W89711 Harmonic Balancer Puller Sells under many different brand names, but if you just search by the part number you'll find it at your favorite tool source.
