Couldn't believe my eyes as I went to test drive the new MkVII VW GTI, I saw a shiny new F56 S LOADED - literally everything available - had already been traded in for the new VW GTI. It was on Cars.com as well, if you want to see it. I believe it only has 2,000 miles on it. You know the person that traded it in, got shafted on the value. It's in Cary, NC. The VW manager said the Audi store was going to take it, so they could try to get more money for it, as people will usually pay more for a car off an Audi lot than their VW relatives

    Update: here is the link...

Man that had to hurt$ bad.

How did you like the MkVII GTI? Seems like a nice car, but why did they remove the hand brake lever? How is a guy supposed do hand brake turns in such a car?

Edit.... OK hand brake fans, I have been informed by my go to GTI guy that only the Youropeon models have the electrizical parking brake. :D

Kinds surprised it is not selling at a premium....like was typical for many mini's that had to be ordered MONTHS in advance...

Saw this with Camaro's in 2010 or whatever was year one for these. SS's being sold "used" with a few hundred miles at a substantial "get it now" premium over MSRP.

In the case of this MINI, maybe bought it for someone else, who then "didn't like it" for some reason: too small, "rough" ride, etc. etc.?

You can bet the dealer will sell at a premium & the previous owner got screwed for a huge loss. The high resale value of MINI is a myth perpetrated by MINI. Go to a dealer & see what your MINI is worth on trade.

On trade my MINI ain't worth the gas in the tank. No dealer wants to be stuck with my car.

The "buy it now, no waiting" would be the line I would use to try and sell it. The guy must have ordered it before he drove it.

Right down the road from me... I might go take a look / drive.

Automatic tranny... but no leather interior. Really expensive for a car with no leather.

For reference... that's a little more than what I paid for Blimey in 2006 with all options except Nav, and auto + convertible (which together added about 5k to the price).

Actually was traded with less than 1000 miles on the clock. Wow.

It happens all the time - people buy the hottest, newest car using something other than their big brain. I saw a 2,800-mile Jag F-Type on a dealer lot yesterday that the original owner "just got tired of." :frown2:

If I had that kind of money, I'd buy Nathan's car. :D

The US model has a handbrake lever. In other markets, it gets an electronic parking brake, but it's staying on our models. I absolutely loved the MkVII GTI. It is night and day better than the last generation. I was split between the MkVI and MCS, but decided I liked the MCS' more raw nature. The new GTI has hardly any roll, it's engine is ultra-responsive, it sounds good, it has fantastic steering, and it's so freaking comfy. The interior is well laid out, and finished with high quality materials. I would definitely consider getting one as soon as the performance package is available later this year. The PP has an LSD - which is a must IMO. Between the F56 S and GTI, I couldn't possibly think of ever choosing the MINI over the VW. It has a lot of features too - for a lot less money. For $28K you get 4-doors, REAL leather, backup camera, touchscreen audio, sunroof, fender stereo, and 258lb-ft. You can also independently alter the steering, throttle, suspension - on adjustable damper equipped models, and transmission shift points on DSG models. It's a riot. I would go for the manual, but that's my motto for anything with wheels.

The owner pre-ordered it, and when he drove it for the first time he wasn't in love, but thought he would grow to love it. Well, after 3 weeks, he wasn't in love and the new GTI was available. He swapped it out immediately.

I'm sure the #1 reason it's not selling at a premium is because so many people are going to be scared to buy a basically brand new car that has already been traded in. I know it would worry me that something was wrong with it. I don't think $34K is cheap though, considering it is used, and it's only an MCS. People don't realize that a lot of expensive extras on their car doesn't increase the value as much as they paid for it. You know the guy that owned this probably paid $36-37K and VW probably only have him around $30K for it.

The 7th Gen. GTI is an unbelievable value. The 6th Gen. GTI I traded on my JCW was one of the best cars I ever owned, and the 7th Gen is a whole lot better with the Performance Package and electronic shocks - all for under $30K.

MINI is going to have to do something really spectacular with the F56 JCW Hardtop to even get me to look twice at it.

It's unfortunate that the MINI owner looking for competitive performance for the GTI, now has to go up to a JCW. I really love my 2011 MCS. It puts out less HP than the MkVI, but it's as fast in a straight line, and it sounds great doing it. With the JB+, my car is faster than stock JCW's, and is plenty fast for a front driver with open diffs. It also has a suspension tuning that just puts a smile on your face when you hammer it through a curve. The MkVII GTI wipes the floor with the R56 S and JCW, and I since I don't want to "bash" the F56, I can only say it does the same thing to the F56 S - but even more so. The F56 JCW would have to be cheaper, faster, have an LSD, get a nose job, tummy tuck, and lipo before I would ever consider getting an F56 JCW over a GTI. Not to mention the new Golf R is going to be around the price of a very conservatively equipped JCW (if you go by current pricing), but it's going to have nearly 300HP, sub-5sec 0-60, AWD with torque vectoring, and it's an all around more comfortable and well equipped vehicle, while still being able to rip your face off in a curve. It also is going to have the dual injection system - goodbye carbon buildup!

The only reason the R isn't at the top of the list is that it only comes as a 4-door, and the need for another 4-door is off my list forever. BTW, VW recently confirmed that DI will not be available on U.S. models. No one knows why, but it's one of the dumbest decisions VW has ever made - along with no cloth seats on the GTI SE and the R. Like most middle-range manufacturers, VW's leather is cheap, slippery and smells like the inside of my kid's '09 Fusion. (That is not a compliment!) :frown2:

No DI engine.... Maybe that's how they fix the problem of carbon on the intake valves....
