Hi all! Quick question on torque settings for the drain plug on the oil pan and oil filter canister? Also torque settings on the lug nuts. All help is much appreciated.
for a gen 1, R53 Engine oil drain plug to oil pan: 25Nm (18ft-lbs) Cover to oil filter housing: 25Nm (18ft-lbs) I use 98 ft-lbs +/-2 on OEM lug bolts.
Thanks for the info....the manual that came with this 2015 MCS is woefully lacking in pertinent info. I asked the service rep for the correct values and he didn't know, said he could go ask a tech but was too busy at that time. Guess I'm going to have to buy a Chilton type manual. Thanks again for your input, it sounds about right and gives me a good starting point.
Don't bother with a Chilton, or Haynes type manual. Bentley is the way to go. Not cheap, but worth every penny.

I thought that the R53 lug bolts were 78 ft-lbs. The oil drain and filter housing I'm not sure... I always just did 1.5 grunts as, especially for the filter housing, it's hard to get a ratchet handle on there, let alone a torque wrench.
For the gen 2 R56 (not your model but we might as well have everyone represented here) Oil Drain plug to oil pan - 22 ft-lb Cover to oil filter housing 18 ft-lb Though I’ve traditionally done the hand-tight and then just a bit more for the filter housing.
I'm going off BMW TIS 36 10 1AZ spec for M12 wheel bolts, 120NM. 140NM is for M14. But, grunting might be ok too. And somehow this is a 3rd gen forum.
Filter can holder thing 25Nm, and drain plug to 30Nm. The lug torque spec should be in your owners manual but it varies by year. Mine is something like 103.2 ft. lbs.
First this is a dead thread its 2 years old. Second it is under " 3rd Generation MIN" topics, look at the top, this is what Canusurfis meant. But most of all this was resurrected by some guy that joined and than posted the same thing to 10 non-related threads. No one is turning this into a mini war everyone was posting specks to different gens under the gen3 forum. to help a guy that did not ask a question. I am glad we are trying to help but good grief. Look at all of Desy232 post.
R-53 Lug bolt torque specs With the earlier R-52 with the 12mm bolts, the correct torque is 88 Ft lbs. Slightly more with the later 14mm bolts.
