Hi all I have a problem with my 2002 r53 cooper s, It shifts from normal gears straight into reverse no resistance at all. My question is is the shift lock or whatever its called in the shifter, cable linkage or in the transmission im getting couterdicting quoats. Sry bout the crap english im from holland
Shift lock? Do you mean lock out reverse when you are in 3rd or any other forward gear? I do not think MINI locks out gears at all (in a stick) car. If I was an idiot I could go from 1st to 2nd to 3rd and then slam it in reverse. Now if I did this I would expect to see transmission in parts behind me when I come to a stop.:lol::lol:
Its suposed to be a hard push or at least an effort to get it in reverse standing still or moving from what i hear. This is as smooth as going from 1 to 2 its ok downshifting but at the lights it gets scetchy
Yes you do have to push it a little harder to move the lever into revers. I believe it is the shifter mechanism. But I can't be sure. I could check the Bentley manual but will not be home for a few more days. Your English is better than my Dutch.
Thanks! If you could check the manual plzzz do i dont mind waiting i just realy want to know where the real problem is! the manual i have just covers removal and asembely of a new one...
I do believe the "extra oompf" that acts as the reverse lockout is part of the one shifter cable, or part of the transmission itself. I have my old shifter assembly in the garage at home, I can take a look at it this evening to verify that it isn't part of that.
Wahaaaa getting heated in here. Thanks for checking! Cables looked fine ine mine so suspecting trans now...this could get expensive.. wil keep you posted.
Yeah we know each other well and we live near each other. Savvy and I bust each other chops all the time.:lol::lol::lol: Thank God you guys can not see our text.:lol::devil::lol::devil::lol:
