Condition, Condition, Condition !! A well maintained 02 can be a much better deal than a 05 / 06 that was flogged and poorly maintained.

Yes what 00Mini said. I have a 02 S and have loved the car. I bought it in 04. 02 have a reputation of being rattle but my Mini has not been too bad. My Mini is a very early 02 I believe it is one of the first sold in Memphis. There are a few difference on the very early ones so on a very few occasions my car has taken a different part then all the rest of the R53's. Some things to think about. Do you plan on Moding the car? if so how much? The reason I ask is no 02 has a LDS if that is an option you want you will have to find a later model that has one or budget money to install one. If you are going to do heavy mods then it really doesn't matter what year you get as long as it is in decent shape. what ever year you get plan on doing some work to get the car in shape.
What is your budget? this is a very nice Mini for sale here.

Book mark this page, you can run the vin and see what options the car you are looking at has.

Wouldn't lds be limited differential slip?

This is why we should spell out what we mean, instead of making up obscure acronyms that most people don't know.
