My, new to me, R53's sunroof is very hesitant to open and more so to close, the rails seem super dry. My guess is that i need to clean and lube the rails. Any recommendations on lubricant? Any threads or walkthroughs? (Searched but no results) is this something i can do or would you all recommend i take it to someone? Thanks in advance!

When I bought my wife's bonestock '06 S, during the winter a few years ago, it had been sitting since September. I live in Ohio and took the car to the dealer in Dublin, OH to be checked out. Of course, THEY told me it needed a whole new roof gearing system and that the old one was shot. Not at all happy with that response, I took the car back to the used car lot where I had bought the car and told them about it. They took it inside, greased the crap out of it and I was on my way again in about 1-2 hours. I don't know what they used, but it has been perfect during the last 3-4 years.

If I knew where you live and if I ever remember to stop by that lot again, I could ask them what they used and pass that info on to you.

Any slippery stuff will work. get some spray 3 in 1 Oil and spray down the sun roof rails.

It can't hurt and may fix things!

As I recall, the mechanic where I bought her S was using a white grease. I don't remember if it was from a can, a tube, or a spray, but we have had no problems since.

I'll ask the local dealership's service dept but i don't plan to bring it to them.
I'm located in Salt Lake City Utah, btw. A bit far to attend the Dragon this year. Haha

    Lubing the roof....

    Bonestock....

    All in the same thread.

Sounds like a couple of euphemisms illegal in the state of Georgia.

Maybe not illegal in the state of Florida...

Maybe not illegal in Florida, but heavily frowned upon by many right wing ultra conservative organizations, and the entire Disney corporation.

Well.... Maybe after they arrested the 35 perverts working there caught in the sting operation.... Then it might be the entire Disney corporation.... But not prior....

I use synthetic bearing grease for my sunroof tracks. Sticks better than lithium.

Been very happy with my sunroof since I rebuilt it over the winter.
