Any suggestions for upgrading the bulbs to brighter ones that will not trip the "bulb out" indicator?

Brighter in a fog light is kind of counter productive if you want the light to function as a fog light. Brighter bulbs should not give you any bulb out warnings. LED bulbs will, because there is not enough current draw from them.

Get an 35 W HID fog light kit ONLY. (Not 55 W kit) $29.99
A 55W kit will get too hot for the plastic housing but your lens will be ok because its glass. not worth the issues. Just stick with the 35w.

I have them and they have worked great for years. The kits are well made with waterproof connectors and sealed digital ultra-thin ballasts. (Easy plug and play)

The fog bulb size is : H11 for an R53

DDM Tuning 35W and 55W HID Kits

I do not use them as fog lights, I use them as driving lights.

Thanks for the suggestions. I put LED bulbs in my Clubman and right away got the bulb out.

I would like to use the fogs as driving lights.

You need to get the LED's that have a "load" resistor built into the circuit so the MINI thinks the bulb is still good.....

LEDs won't provide great light output.

Putting a brighter bulb into a fog light will not change it into a driving light. The reflector & lens are what determines fog vs driving. You will have a brighter fog light that no longer works well as a fog light & doesn't work as a driving light.
