I just bought a Mini 2006 JCW. The coolant temp is running around 160-190. Any ideas what may be going on? According to the manual that isn't normal.
:cornut: No help here as Margi is 2nd Gen 08 R56 MCS/JCWm but, her standard operating temp is 220F(ScanGauge II). When I first got her, that temp range bothered me as I thought that it was way too high but, after considerable research, no that's nl temp. Jason
I'd think the thermostat is stuck open. Ten again, that was the case with the last person that asked a very similar question. Does the cabin heat take longer to come up to normal than usual?
What does the manual say? I think that's the normal range for 1st gen engines, 2nd gen engines run much hotter, around 220F I haven't seen any temp gauges with numbers on them, do you have the chrono pack or something? or an aftermarket gauge?
I think that it is a little cool for a 1st gen. Granted, I don't have a gauge to tell me normal but I'm thinking that since there was at one time a 180F thermostat available in the aftermarket that the OEM one opens at a higher temp leading me to think that the range the OP has posted is a bit cool. I could be wrong, it happened before.
If it's a 180* thermostat, it will run between 170-190, as it opens/closes, fan cycles etc. Seems right to me.....I know the 1st gen engines ran cooler than the 2nd......what does the manual say, as the OP said the manual said that range was "wrong"....
Stock 1st gen thermostat is around 200°. Before replacing anything verify that the gauge is correct first.
