I would like to push my wheels out just a tad. How much can or should I go? I did get new studs when I ordered the wheels, so don't really want another set. 4mm 6mm ??
I have 15 mm in the front to clear coilovers with 215-45-17 tires and 8mm in the rear. http://www.turnermotorsport.com/BMW-MINI/c-16-bmw-wheels.aspx Lugs http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-1559-wheel-bolt-for-bmw-mini-12x150-silver-fits-most-bmws.aspx
5mm is about perfect. Oh yeah, I happen to have a set I bought from someone on on here... I think it was these... http://www.motoringalliance.com/forums/classifieds-archive/13293-sale-h-r-5mm-wheel-spacer-set-two.html#axzz3QdeuNrX4 I've not used them. They have lovingly sat on a bookshelf and dusted every 2 weeks, on Friday.
Rim offset will come into play, and of course "the look" your after... Dang Dave.O, that's a lot of spacer!! I'm not familiar with your coilover set up size wize but most coilovers get you more space not less.. Again your wheel offset may dictate that??
Yeah it is a lot but I have much longer lugs so its all good. I have seen 12 mm all the way around and it look very good as long as you buy the longer lugs. That's why I posted the link to TMS. (Turner Motor sports)
Perhaps you can get away with it, as in your wheels won't fall off under normal use, but I would recommend longer wheel bolts with any spacers. If you're a real cowboy, you can go 10 or 15mm spacers on our site for $88.13 for a set of two (with lug bolts). Linky coming soon: we're cleaning up our site this morning.
I do have longer lugs on all 4 corners. That why I posted the link for TMS. They are only $2.50 each lug makes $40 a set for insurance that darn cheap. You can also mix lengths for different spacer front and rear.
You stated you ordered wheels so my guess is some type of aftermarket wheel. What is the size of the wheel (dia, width, offset) and the size of the tire you plan to use? Is your car lowered? How much spacer you use depends on your wheel-tire setup so that you do not add to much spacer to cause rubbing. I use 15mm spacers all around with studs. My wheels are 18x7 with 52mm offset and 215/40-18 tires.
The R113 wheels are 18x7 with 52 offset, same as my GP wheels. In my opinion 5mm (about 1/4") is not enough if you are going through the hassle of adding spacers and longer bolts or studs mainly for looks. I would go with 12-15 mm spacers with studs and nuts.
Had a big fight with Ecs this afternoon. Sending back the 5mm spacers. Canceled another order I had as well. What colour are your spacers and bolts?
I use H&R 15mm spacers that are silver/aluminum color. I painted the sides black. I use WMW 14 to 12mm stud conversion kit to convert from 14x1.25 to 12x1.5 threads. The studs are black. I use black 12mmx1.5 tuner nuts. The end of the stud lines up perfectly with the top of the nut (no stud protruding past the nut).
