Well I have to say I love Babs new Skooby clubster, but I hate the sunroof. Always burning sun even when closed. Long story short I have sort of received permission to get it tinted. Who in town is good & how dark should I have it tinted? I'm thinking limo tint or some such. Thanks!
Chuck, I had mine done at Performance Auto Spa - a world-class, state-of-the-art automotive Window Tinting, Paint Protection and Detailing facility, serving the greater Columbus area. They were recommended by MAG, and did an excellent job on my MCS. I went with 20% or 18% (I forget which film I used on the sunroof), which seems to be the perfect amount of sun for me.
I think we took our clubby to Quality Tint on Morse. They did a pretty decent job. I'm thinking we went with limo on the sunroof, but wish I would have gone a shade lighter.
I wonder if we can get a window tint group together for a club discount at Performance Auto Spa? I've been looking for someone that did the ceramic tint locally...
Quality does good work, but when I was trying to get my WRX done they didn't return my callS, plus last I heard they are scheduling 2 months in advance which to me is crazy. I ended up using Automotive Appearance Pros they did a great job on my tint.
I'm a big fan of the Huper Optik brand tint. My car has it and many MINI owners in Dallas used the same brand. It's very good at keeping the sun at bay. With that in mind I wrote Huper Optik USA to find out where in Ohio it can be installed. I used Quality and am extremely happy with it, but Allen is correct they were booked about a month out when I had mine done last August.
Thanks for all the thoughts & recommendations. Maybe I'll just paint it flat black. I do know I'm not going to wait a month to get it done. Alliance is not that far away. One more chance to drive through Amish country.
I could be mistaken, but when I had mine done up at Detroit Tuned garage day last year, the installer was telling me that they get all their supplies from a company in Plain City. Performance Auto has a Plain City address so maybe it is the same supplier. I like the idea of group buys. It worked out well for our dent removal in my opinion. Maybe they would do a group day sooner than a single order get in line kinda thing. Besides, if they do anything like how Advanced Solar did it during DT garage days, it is pretty easy and quick to laser cut exact windows over and over again when they are all the same brand. Minimal setup time.
Another vote for Quality. I have found 35 to be perfect. That is what I had Quality put on my old Mustang Not the best pic but it wasnt all that dark. Cut heat nicely EDIT: I just saw you are talking about the roof.... go LIMO... no sense in going lighter. You'd be able to see the giant ball of fire just fine through 1% lol I always hated the sunroof except when I would use it to vent.
you can do one of two things. vinyl over the top. totally block the sun and makes it blend in with the roof. or tint it limo on the inside. never was a sunroof fan so I'd vinyl it, but limo tint on the inside is a second best. Chad Detroit Tuned

Just got back from Quality Tinting. I stopped in this morning to talk tint & see what they felt would be best for Babs MINI. The Guy I talked to told me it would be April 20 at the earliest for a tint job. Doh! Then Mark the owner walked in & asked if I wanted the car tinted right now. Long story short I said yes & now Babs MINI has 15% on the sunroof & 35% on the rear side & back door windows. It looks good & is a lot cooler.
