On Saturday I went up to Mid-Ohio to watch some friends drive in the NASA event. I'm pretty sure if I keep tagging along to these events that I'm going to need to get a track toy. I only saw 1 MINI there (GP II), but am not sure what HPDE group it was running in because I didn't see it on track for HPDE 2 or 4. Here are some of my favorite pics from the day as well as a link to the whole album

Thanks! I had a scare when I went down to the Esses to try and get some better lines of sight. Was getting ready to shoot some shots to see how the lighting was, but realized I was kind of low to the track. Decided to step up on one of the picnic tables to see if that would help and the bench board was not attached. It flew up and hit the camera and then me in the shoulder as I was trying to catch my balance. Camera shut off and didn't want to turn back on for a little bit. Lens hood got scratched but everything else seems to be working fine.

Glad you survived. I'd probably been killed to death. Good thing you had a lens hood on to absorb the impact. Maybe you should carry a 3 step ladder like I see some folks do. You gaining elevation explains some of the angles I couldn't figure out how you achieved.

What were those Indy/dirt track open wheeled cars? I've never seen those at a NASA event before.

BTW, you don't need a dedicated track car to run a NASA HPDE, you can go PLENTY fast in your street car. I drove a stock 115K mile Saturn coupe on rock hard cheap Chinese tires at one at Watkins Glen a few years ago and had a blast! I was red lined in 4th at about 115 mph down that back straight too!

Thank for sharing, on your FB what was the car like #210, it appears to be a special of some sort?

Nice group of pictures, looked like a fun day other than falling off a table. :(

They are called Thunder Roadsters. Looks like they were made by a company called 600 Racing.

Seeing some of the carnage that happened on Saturday through all of the HPDE groups and the TT and PT race groups, I'm not willing to stick my DD out on the track.

I actually never ended up on the picnic table (a group of silverbacks showed up and used them as actual picnic tables). Most of the shots from the Esses were shot using the fence posts around the Honda Bridge or hand held about 20 ft away from the fence line.

Liked your pictures no matter where you actually stood. Nice work.
