You know, this video is proof positive of the merits of enslaving the young and forcing them to do nothing but the arts for the span of their lives. China could teach us lots.
I'll find out if John's squadron has a spare f-18 jet engine sitting around that we might borrow. Steve

Good for a laugh, thought I should share. I didn't realize the Mini had competition. Kevin I have to tell you a funny story about Regal Reliants and you can pass it on to your group if you wish. In the spring of 1953 I had just got out of the US Air Force and driven from Clovis AF Base, New Mexico in my MG TC to San Francisco. I got a job as a mechanic at a shop on the second floor of a building on Brady Street that had a ramp to drive up. It was called "Coventry Motors" and was run by Roy Hurst, another Englishman who hailed from there. At some point a chap called Bernie Mostyn came by offering a franchise and dealership of Reliant cars. Roy thought they would sell and took four cars. We used one as a shop truck and delivery car for parts, also to be seen driving around town. Being a three wheeler it registered as a motor cycle and we could tuck it in the tightest spaces, even park it on the sidewalk on occasion. At that time Earther Kitt was appearing at the Curran Theater in "New Faces of 1954" and Roy bought 4 tickets to the early show and with our wives we all piled in one of the Reliants to go downtown. Parking on the street was a problem even then so Roy drove down a narrow alley next to the theater. We all got out and Roy and I lifted the car and turned it sideways flat against the building at the end of the alley and went in to see the show. When it was over we were surprised to see the alley now full of people lined up for the next performance. I was too embarrassed to walk past all these people to get in the car, our wives were too and the three of us hung back hoping the people would soon go into the theater and save us the humiliation of being laughed at. Not so Mr Hurst! He marched past them all, went right up to the car, opened the door, turned and shouted to us, "Come along cowards!!" The crowd just cracked up and we had no choice but to slink down the alley to gales of laughter, pick up the car and point it to the street. The ladies squeezed in the back, they are four seaters, and Roy drove down the alley to cheers and applause from the crowd. We were the first act, the crowd's entertainment began before the doors opened and as you can see, every detail is burned in my brain 58 years later! I don't know what happened to the cars, I don't think Roy ever sold any, he must have given them away. wink [ame="http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xdul1q_clarkson-almost-kills-himself-drivi_shortfilms"]Dailymotion - Clarkson Almost Kills himself driving a Robin Reliant Top Ge - a Film & TV video@@AMEPARAM@@http://www.dailymotion.com/swf/video@@AMEPARAM@@video[/ame]
