BOUT TIME!!! Glad to hear that the Superleggera has a real good chance of hitting the streets. Rear wheel drive, always a good thing. Of course they would have to hose it up by putting electric crap up front. I wonder how hard it well be to make that battery operated stuff disappear? Three years is a long time for this to make it to the showroom floor but I will keep my fingers crossed.
I'll be interesting to see how much of the concept's awesomeness survives. If they'd make a "Coachwork Edition" one, kinda like the Apple Watch Edition, with all the concept's awesomeness... it would cost $500k
I like the actual Superleggera concept but I think I like the one in the drawing above even better. Of course, it will end up looking like neither of them once it hits the road. Been less than enthusiastic about wanting this thing to come to fruition because I thought the concept was plug-in electric only. No thanks. But if they're going to use the 3- and/or 4-cylinder engines there may be no electric motors at all. That puts a smile on my face. If they use both, could be even better...or worse, I suppose, depends on the execution. I'm confused by this news, though, thought they already decided the model designated to fill the small size spot soon to be vacated by the Coupe and Roadster would be the Rocketman. Or am I having another gray matter misfire?
Time to start throwing change into a jar and see what happens in 2018. I can always use it to refresh the '05 R53.
Not with that grill it won't go into production. That looks too much like a Aston Martin / Ford grill. Aston sued and tried to make Ford change the grill on the Ford Fusion but lost only because Ford owned Aston while the Fusion was being developed.
Still won't have more power than a BMW Z3. Just like no Porsche Cayman will make more power than a 911 turbo.
I love the new MINI concept. Hopefully most of the design features will remain on the final product. My '98 Z3M sported 240 HP.
Such cobra-esk look.... Will never look like that unfortunately.... Soooo..... MINI is cutting several niche cars in order to add a niche car...
Will be interesting to see what the next rendition of the car looks like, and then the final production car. Wonder if the ones that like it now still like it then and vice a versa...
I know a guy at the Dragon and he drives an unmodded R50 that drives the highly modded R53s crazy, cuz they cannot keep up. HE is a driver, while THEY are just guys with souped up cars.
I've read that this will be based on the upcoming Clubman chassis, not on the F56 chassis, so will be a(nother) significantly bigger car than a Mini - more like an Audi TT.
