Hi, so I just got my new Mini, drove 250 miles and 4 hours away to pick it up and it's absolutely gorgeous. But the process of transferring my old plates & whether or not I need new inspection immediately is somewhat confusing for me seeing as I literally just turned 21 and never owned an out-of-state car. Basically, I have a valid inspection sticker from Virginia until January 2016. I live in PA, picked it up in Virginia, got my temp tags, and drove it all the way home. Do I need to get my car reinspected in Pennsylvania or can I just keep the VA inspection on until it expires? Thanks! [Oh, and here's a courtesy pic of my new beauty :biggrin5:]
I can't answer your inspection question but I can tell you that you are the owner of a nice looking R53!
99% sure you need to get a new inspection sticker in the state it is registered..I have lived in hmmmm...think 10 states....8 in a 4 year period at one point.... Up here in NH (live free or die) you have 10 days with an out of state car... Different states have different rules, and standards.... Some do emissions (some with a "sniffer and dyno, some just a plug-in) , some don't, some do it every 2 years...some, like up here in NH, do it yearly, in the owners birthday month....
Haha, thank you. I've noticed it feels a lot more.. torque-y compared to my old S. Dunno if it's because of only having 80k miles or if it's heavily modified... but anyway, I appreciate it!
That's what I actually figured, so I'll have to wait until I get my registration to inspect the car... but the more information I have, the better. I think what's throwing me off is that I bought my car at a dealership with all tax/tags/registration included in my sticker price... I asked them if they'd be willing to transfer my plate over to the Mini, they said they had to file certain paperwork and PennDOT will reach out to me for verification or something of the sort. They'd cover the cost of the actual transfer/fees applied. They just gave me temp tags til I get the paperwork or whatever it is.... I don't know much about car registry. I always buy cars from PA, so it's all new... It's been a headache to say the least haha.
Once you make it to the promised land of paperwork the enjoyment of owning a beautiful R53 will make it seem like a walk in the park.
Haha, I owned a pepper white R53 before and loved it. I'm one of those drivers who don't really care about plastic rattled, thin headliners, and cheap interiors. I just love the supercharger's sound!
Having heard of the trials and tribulations of guys trying to register their home-built trailers with PennDoT, I was kinda disappointed to find that "How to Title and Register Your Out-of-State Vehicle in Pennsylvania" didnt just say:
That is a very nice R53! And it already comes with the JCW mesh grille (the good one). Congrats and good luck.
Just go to a local tags place with all you VA state paperwork and they will tell you what you need to do to register your new R53 in PA. Reg is only $36.00 + tags which are cheap. Then you can go get Pa State Inspection and Emissions. ** If you area requires Emissions. I am outside of Philly and we require Emissions.
Thanks. I'll head there on Friday and speak to them to see what all to do. And the inspection will come when I get my registration! Exciting days ahead. :cornut:
Oh, and before I forget, since you live in Philly Dave... Have you found a fairly cheap car insurance? Or does anyone have any recommendations? $232 doesn't seem exactly... cheap to me. Being 21 & having a supercharged anything is pretty pricey for full coverage
$232 for what a month? It all going to be based on where you live, your age, your driving record and yes your credit score. I use Erie insurance and have for the past 10 years. Then again I am creeping up on 50.
