    Yah...right...neither do I.

..and a quote from a local website regarding the use of detectors as opposed to jammers.

Note that with only laser detection on a radar detector, it provides zero protection because you won't have time to react to the quick speed aquisition on a police laser gun.

I have a Beltronics 995. I speed all the time and it has more than paid for itself.

The county I live in has recently bought laser speed guns, so I will have to get a laser jammer.

V1. And it HAS saved me from laser, in traffic, when it picked up scatter from a car ahead of me.

^^^this......I have never needed one as I make sure I am never going that much faster than everyone else and when alone no radar detector is going to save you from the laser and the following ticket.

At one time I always used a detector back when Escort was the one to have. As time has gone by the tax collectors have gotten much better at ambushing road users. IMHO the detectors are not as fool proof as they once were. I find that driving sensibly & using situational awareness it is possible to drive in a fun manner & keep a clean license. Even in Ohio. A friend has latest & greatest detector riding with him yet he has a pile of tickets. Just my .02.

Back in '82 I had one of the original Escorts. Darn thing was as big as a cigar box. Damn near pulled my sun visor of in my Supra. I used it for a few trips back and forth from CA to Biloxi. Still got nabbed a couple of times in Texas. I had several over the next decade or so and the last ticket I got while using one was for using one. They're verboten in VA and I got caught by a State Trooper with a radar detector detector. Since then I haven't had a speeding ticket, mainly because of luck and cruise control. I usually set it for 5-6 over posted and if traffic is moving faster than that, I just hang with them and stay in the right lane as much as possible.

Bel GX65 Pro - a very good detector, very similar to the Escort Passport 9500ix
with updatable GPS location for red light cameras, speed cameras, speed traps, etc.

If I remember correctly, an officer can tell, by the reading he gets, if a "jammer" is being used and that gives him PC to make a stop.

I currently have a Whistler. I've had Escorts in the past and they have been very good.

I've had a detector since the Fuzz Buster came out 30 years ago. It wasn't very good. Since I got my first good one, an Escort in '84 I haven't had a speeding ticket. But it isn't just the detector, it's how you use it. Escort use to supply a great little book on how to read the detector's warnings. I still use that info today.

For lasers it's already been said it works when there is traffic and it picks up the scatter. You can also reduce the targets or target area. In Ohio they are taught to aim at the front plate. I folded it down and mounted it at an angle (all 100% legal in Ohio) They shoot at it don't get a lock and I get the scatter reading.

If this is true those of us without a front plate are going to be completely immune to lasers shooting at us. :D

And, if, in Ohio, you do not have a front plate, you are going to break the law and get a fine, anyway. Sometimes you eat the bear and sometimes the bear eats you. In this case the Ohio bear is gonna have a feeding frenzy....:ihih:

A radar jammer is illegal, a laser jammer is not.

Though I remember a radar jammer that could be set to tell the cop whatever speed you wanted him to see, the cop would never know.

I have used the Escort 8500 x50 for many years with great success. I do not need the GPS option that is added by going to the 9500. Escort now has much better detectors but also more expensive. Escort also now has a 360 version (directional arrows) similar to Valentine One. The arrows would be nice because I frequently look around wondering where the radar signal emitter is located.

Escort owns Beltronics so very similar detectors. Beltronics are usually less expensive for similar features.

Selectable bands is a nice feature so you can turn off bands you do not care about such as X and K. I usually only leave on Ka and Laser.

Hey Jeff, the only ticket you will get for not having a front plate in Ohio is from the meter maid when parked. I haven't had a front plate for 10 years, been stopped for speed many times and never questioned about a front plate. If it's a feeding frenzy, the Bears are starving.
