Hi, Does anyone know if bad cataletic converter can cause shifting issues with 6 speed auto trans. I'm having progressive issues with automatic shifting beyond 4th gear. Can shift perfectly normal manually. Is there a simple solution?
No, The catalytic converter will not affect shifting. Try the cheap stuff first, change your transmission fluid. Then think about getting a new valve body, if the transmission fluid change doesn't work.
Welcome to M/A! When I had shifting problems with my '06 MCSa, all it took was a tranny fluid change 20k ago. .smooth sailing ever since!
I asked a shop that was recommended to me for a flush, and once he checked mileage 110k he told me it wasn't a good idea. I hear mix stories about doing it. But if it's failing go for it. Or the other story is just change the filter. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have about 122k on my '06 MCSa right now. The mechanic who changed my fluid told me to change it every 30k and I plan to do that again at 130k. I have had NO problems since changing the fluid 22k ago. I use the paddle shifters a lot and mix in the floor shifter occasionally to keep it "loose".
IMO since your transmission is not working as it should a flush & fill isn't a bad idea. What do you have to lose? It very well may help your transmission. I hope you aren't taking your car to Joe Blow's Trans repair & Tattoo shop. You need to go to someone who really knows MINI's. Welcome to M/A
I did mine at 60K, it's kind of a misnomer to say you changed it, since all you can do is dilute it with new fluid. I drained and refilled mine 4 times, went thru 7 or 8 quarts of new fluid. But like you guys, I'd rather do that than nothing, mine was shifting real hard the first 1-2 shift on a really cold morning, after that it shifted fine. Since changing the fluid it doesn't seem to do that anymore, for whatever that's worth. Oh yeah, do not take your car to Iffy Lube or one of the other quick change artists, unless you want them to buy you a new engine/trans. The fluid used in these gearboxes can be bought at a Toyota store for less than 1/2 of what MINI charges for the juice - exact same stuff. Since it's a Toyota transmission, I trust their stuff.....
Dave that's why the one in Babs clubster gets changed every 30,000 miles. Yes you can't change it all, but it never will have a load of fully depleted MINI lifetime fluid in it. Prevention is much better than trying to bring back a wonky trans to life with a transfusion.
