But considering the latest iterations from Mini, do they really remember what a "sports car" is ?

The JCW is starting to be "Not So Special", when everything is offered in that flavor.... :(

Has MINI ever actually made a "sports car"?

.".....remember what a sports car is."

That said: there was a lot more sport car in the classic S and first gens than the ones built since, and there is zero sports car in all the mini SUV crossovers.....which is exactly what they are....Cool small crossovers.

I didn't mean to come across like a troll and misquote/misinterpret your words. You're right... if they are going to build something and call it a "sports car" it would do them well to be cautious about how loosely they intend to apply the designation.

I think the closest thing to a sports car MINI has ever built is probably the GP/GP2.

No sweat, didn't think you were trolling at all, we're just spinning here for grins anyway. You actually made a very good point though, MINI has never made a "sports car" in the truest sense of the term....

That said; my R53 kept me sporting a big silly grin for six years!!:D

I loved my R53. Eventually, I'll either have another one or a classic. For now, I have a JCW Countryman and I love it. I know it's not a "Real MINI/Mini" for a lot of people but MINI managed to take everything I wanted and put it in a MINI package.

All that aside, I'm looking forward to seeing what they do. I'm hoping some weight savings is involved.

Same here. The JCW CM in stock form out handles MANY crossovers, and I have driven several.....it's a ball to drive quickly which is what I thought the whole Mini mantra was about?

The exhaust is a HUGE disappointment, but the engine, clutch, interior and exterior pieces sort of make up the difference:Thumbsup:

Cool.....the price of my JCW Coupe just went up (c'mon, it's going to be a collector car).

There was a classic based "sports car" prototype. I forget the designation. Maybe the new one will be like the ACV30. It's a cool looking idea.

I have almost the same strength of "DO NOT WANT" feeling about that as I do about the first pictures of the F56.

minimark, do you see the same type of conversations between the owners of the different generations of Miata/MX-5?
