The MINI of the Month was to be a FUN and FRIENDLY sort of affair with some of the best MINIs and Minis seen on Motoring Alliance on display for all to see. I promoted trash talk and good natured ribbing. But alas...some took that wayyyyyyyyy to far. After being asked to reign it back in those few had to get in their last licks. While it sucks for us 99% that did have fun and enjoy this the 1% ruined it for all. On top of the above I had issues getting the prize package together. I should of known better to announce prizes that were offered before I had them in my hand. Some of the vendors came through with flying colors and went above and beyond. Others I had to ask more than a few times and still never saw what they offered. I'm not the type that will keep bugging them for free stuff. They are busy and don't need me to keep bugging them. To pile more on, ya'll just were not entering. The first month there was a big group, then it became hard just to get 4 entries. That should of told me after the initial 3 month run I had planned that I was trying to hard. Live and learn. In the end this all just imploded on it's self. Maybe we can try it again at some point. Thanks for those that participated.
Had a feeling it would happen, was watching the whole time hoping they would quit but to no avail. Really sucks though I was really excited for next month... I even rushed to get some modifications done for it. Wasn't about the prizes for me, it was about competition and getting to display my car.
Thats a shame. I always enjoyed seeing everyones Mini or MINI. Thanks Nathan for all the work you do to keep MA going.
....and I lose again. :biggrin5: it's to bad that folks can't play nice, especially for something as mundane as car of the month on a forum. added....If you ever decide to bring this back, I suggest you make it available only to those who have not won in the past.
First off I want to THANK ALL that had voted this month for the MINI's that the owner enjoy SO much. It is a shame that a few can ruin it for the others. This is a another way Nathan has given us to show case our cars. GREAT JOB to MOTORING ALLIANCE.
I felt like the contest was too biased towards modified or heavily accesorized cars, some of us like our MINI not so........expressive......but I didn't feel like we'd have a shot without some major bling or mods, so I stayed out.
Dave.... With all your carbon buildup.... I would have voted for you.... I would have considered it a non-factory mod....
Its always the case, no matter what you are doing...it only takes one or two jackasses to take something fun and ruin it for the rest...Sorry to see this go...Maybe a suggestion to turn it into a yearly competition...MINI of the YEAR! enter and campaign all year long and announce the winners in December. Prizes would make a good Christmas Package. Less work for you Nate, and it would be easier for people to get on board... My 2cents
Meh... that gets a little dangerous b/c you would have more contestants and more personalities going at it. Perhaps themed months and send out emails to enter so people know. Not everyone looks at the forum everyday and threads get buried. So basically my idea is to have one month be for Justa's, another R53s, R56s, Clubmans, Countrymans, Vintage, heavily modded, non-modded etc... Make it so it is compact each month and if there aren't enough entrances then no monthly mini; simple. But email or even pm notifications to inform what month is what and when to enter is key.
What a shame, I was looking forward to March. Coming from a college student, I have yet again learned that age does not directly correlate to one's maturity level. Hope to see this started again in the future.
Sad, it was fun to enter both MINIs for two months, I did not win, we had a good time. Nathan, you took the proper steps, it was out of hand. Back to posting about what I did with my MINI today. Don
I enjoyed voting for other MINIs, even though I never intended to enter either our Roadster or Countryman. MINI OF THE MONTH, in my opinion, was for showcasing the unusuals. I think the poor number of entries and the very poor number of voters was reason enough to suspend the contest that Nathan so gallantly administered. But, I will still miss it, and I again congratulate the winners who now hold those coveted titles.
Whole thing is ridiculous, Mini of the Month was meant for fun and never as a measure of one's manhood... Think it is crazy that folks here can't have a friendly little monthly contest without someone getting butt hurt over it..:screwy: Hats off to Nathan for trying to do it in the first place, it was a nice distraction from the really important things in life for a little while...
Yea it was sad.......since the thread is still viewable, all anyone has to do is go back and review the events of the last two days......and see how it all started.....
