[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKxgfpp8v9Q"]MINI Olympic Games 2016 TV Commercial #DefyLabels - YouTube[/ame] It captures how I feel about the mini community overall.
Once you are successful, you can use some of you "capital" so to say, goodwill, economic, etc to thank folks, and do good yes. But how long has it been since MINI ran an advertisement about their cars!? And what they do for a buyer? They have been trying for a higher brow advertising, trying to pull at heartstrings and emotion...but they forgot to include product info... So while one or two adds are a success, in who, the program has been a specular failure.... Does the MINI in the picture "win gold" for the best mpg? Maybe win gold for performance or reliability? Does it handle better than most? Nobody who doesn't drive one will ever know.... They forgot to weave the info into the add.... Think of Budweiser Superbowl adds...sure they solute a group, but weave product info into the story.... MINI forgot to try to sell cars... It's like they are embarrassed with what they have to sell? Not sure what my take is......but they failed in communication.....sure another "feel good add" but another series with no car info...
The ship has sailed, the train has left the station & MINI missed them. My .02 worth of advice is that you guys take care of those nice MINI's you own because there ain't no more coming. Sad but true.
:lol::lol::lol: ^^^^ Not going to happen in any BMW / MINI EVER. I would like a unicorn, a rainbow and the pot of gold at the end of it.
They should have a F56 say "I am not Ugly" out of it's fish face followed up by and R53 saying " Yes, Yes you are and why do you even have a hood scoop anyhow?"
:cornut: I've thought that too, even about my car. At least the R56 has a turbo up front and could use a little air and the scoop is actually open. When I had the F56 as a loaner I checked it out and it's completely plugged. It's no better than those stick on scoops. Also, "fish face". Nice
Any MINI after the First Gen S, meaning anything with a turdblow does not need a scoop. To me it just looks stupid since it is non-functional just like my Alta antenna.:lol::lol:
Yet MINI is trying to hang on to the image it had built. The implication of the ad is, "buy a MINI and you can identify as a defiant". There was actually some truth to that in the early years. It took a bit of daring to buy a car that was so tiny and odd looking. Today, there is nothing defiant about buying one of these:
Hey now, I'm sure it's not necessarily "needed" but there is something to be said about the heat in that area of the engine. It's functional as it lets fresh air in. Also, if the SC's were so great, all the guys chasing power wouldn't convert them to a turbo. FAR less parasitic boost. js. One does have to admit the flow thru rate for a stock R53 intercooler is awful. I recon folks wouldn't need an air diverter to help isolate flow thru the intercooler. I've read that when driven hard the heat soak is a big issue on the first gens, hence your alcoholic R53. Back to the point, the F56 scoop is plugged from the factory. R56 is not.
I have one too! That and and air filter were the only things I bought from Alta. Then you yelled at me one day so I stopped buying from them :cornut:
I bought a foam air filter and an Access Port from Alta. I bought the air filter from their brick and mortar store and the Access port on line. Both items work great and Alta was good to work with.
I got a Meth kit running 100% VP M1 Methanol takes care of any intercooler heat issues. :ihih: I do not know what heat soak is anymore since I got the Mistress hooked on Meth. A TVS or a Rotex will be replacing the inefficient hEaton M45 SC someday down the road after my still original SC (on 98k +) dies and I replace it with the new on the shelf in my garage. Also running only 15% pulley Vs 17% or 19% pulley cuts down on turning the blower waaaaay past what it was built for. That is why others have killed M45 way early because they wanted max power but forgot or did not know that comes with max heat.
Honestly, while I loved the whine of a SC, a turbo done right that is modern is more efficient, and has a bit more flexibility. Loved my sc car... But I am really liking a turbo too......the fuel savings and the savings in pollution, taxes, etc which are a side effect has pretty much killed OEM SC for most cars.... bolt-ons, yup...but for an OEM, a turbo is cheaper wihen you look at fleet mpg and co2 limits and taxes....and most consumers will pick the car with the batter mpg....
