It seems to me, the average age of the usual suspects on this site, is roughly 50, and thus should be familiar with the iconic Zippo. The average maturity, thats a different story... To demonstrate the collective majority of everyone who knows what a Zippo is, we ought to start a thread on the five most unique items you've used your Zippo on, legal or illegal...:mad5:
My parents and grandparents had Zippos, but I never did. As for the maturity levels of the inhabitants here: It doesn' matter, because you always have an equal possibility of offending or delighting, no matter what the topic of your post!
Looks like I’m over the hill and gaining speed. Sure hope there isn’t a blind corner with a ‘sudden stop’ in my future :fingerscrossed:
I've got a slim line Zippo with our ship's outline and hull number lying at the bottom of the entrance to the San Juan harbor. Fell out of my shirt pocket back around late '64 or early '65 when I leaned over the side to watch a herd of porpoises follow the ship in to port. Seeing it fall to it's death is an image burned into my memory and I still feel anguish over it's demise. If you want to start a Zippo thread, Nathan, rather than let this one get hijacked you can move it over if you want.
I'm not talking average for the whole site, I'm talking averages for the people on the site that post in irreverent threads such as these. I suspect people who post requesting info about the car are much younger (they don't know everything in the universe yet, like the rest of us do), pulling the overall average of the site down, while at the same time somewhat paradoxically bringing the maturity level of the site up.
I kinda knew what you meant. I just don't get to use phrases like "Au contraire, mon ami" often. I took advantage of the opening.
First zippo I owned, I found. We moved into a new house, I got the previous owners son's bedroom. Hidden in the closet door was a zippo and a stash of cigarettes. Didn't have much use for the cigs, but got plenty of use of the Zippo, without causing too much civic unrest.
I had many Zippo's but the fuel gives me headaches. I used to carry two for hand warmers when I was younger when skiing. Remember the hash makes on the bottom?
I have my dad's Zippo around here somewhere, it looks like an old Zenith television. Dad used to buy all of his TVs and stereos from the same local shop. The shop owner gave it to him for being such a good customer. Dave
I don't talk like that anymore; it's too seductive. Whenever I do, my wife ends up pregnant. I'm pretty sure they're all mine.
Ever had a Zippo leak fluid while in your pocket? Even without igniting, it will leave a nice chemical burn on your thigh. Then, after I took it out of my pocket for a few days, my nephew stole my Zippo! That was 40 years ago and I've not had another one since. Time to go Zippo shopping! (I think one of Gibbs Rules is Always carry Fire, so there, I have a rationalization.)
Zippo's, I have several, most are from my time in the Navy, they are retired but I still carry fire with me. One of those small butane lighters. I also have a Zippo hand warmer which I am going to fuel up as soon as I post this. By the way, they still sell them, they do work.
