Seems there is a bit of a difference as to the direction various parties want to go with the Ferrari Brand.

In a nutshell, the current Ferrari Chairman, Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, wants to keep Ferrari production below 7,000 units a year. However, Fiat, holds 90% ownership in Ferrari. Fiat, led by CEO Sergio Marchionne, see Ferrari as a key component of Marchionne's plans to expand in luxury cars to better compete with Volkswagen Group, which owns Lamborghini among its stable of high-end nameplates.

"Ferrari is now American," which represents "the end of an era," Montezemolo told close associates, Il Corriere della Sera reported today.

Il Corriere della Sera is an Italian daily newspaper published in Milan since 1876.

    What do you think?

Will the big bad Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV push a Ferrari nameplate on a low cost platform sharing machine to bring in the masses, bolstering sales numbers?

Can Ferrari survive as a boutique auto maker making more off of licensing deals than sales of cars?

    Enzo will die again.

I have a feeling the workers may leave.

If they do that to Ferrari it will be a huge mistake.

Here comes a re-pop of the Chrysler Maserati TC. Just because it was a monumentally bad idea once doesn't mean it shouldn't be tried again.

I wonder what they'll call the POS this time...

    Ferrari Dodge 200 GTBi
    Chrysler Enzo F-300C

better yet, a Ferrari Daytona Prowler Spyder

Sounds like a Chrysler based Ferrari Town&Country baby bus is on its way! Like soccer moms need a high HP minivan...

Not sure I would call Ferrari a car company as they make the bulk of their income through branding and licensing their logo/name... .kinda like Playboy (I think they still print them right?!).....
You can get the logo on your jackets, socks, shoes, gloves, pants...bet even on ladies private underthinggys (if not...they should)....lol...
I think the struggle they face is keeping the volume high enough to be cost effective to compete, but low enough to remain a aspirational.....

My local rock 'n roll radio station just changed format to 'alternative' whatever so yes, nothing is sacred anymore as long as knuckleheads push the buttons. Ferrari and Ugo will no doubt some day mean about the same thing.

Yes Zippy, Playboy is still in print. My barber looks to have a great selection, but told me it was "too early for that" last Friday around 9:30 am...

Same here. There is a company in the UK that makes a great copy. I'd consider it because I would want to drive it. Driving the real thing reduces the value and costs a lot.

Ferrari sells a lot more cars now than it ever did. They get premium prices because of the exclusivity. If they make more or cheaper versions the demand will go down and with it profits.

Ferrari controls Fiat's other high end marks too so those would be the better expansion points.

VW has a number of levels and they put the right versions in the right place most of the time. Alfa and Maserati just haven't been defined properly in the scheme of things. Fix that issue and leave Ferrari alone.

Welp. According to Automotive News Luca resigned with his last day the day before the new Chrysler Fiat entity starts trading on the NYSE in October.
