Saw this on the way to the barber a few minutes ago. Showroom fresh 1957's style. She sure was a looker. It's nice to see a well kept lady... Even the roof rack was a OEM VW original that looked brand new. Enjoy...
Ski Rack.... Needed for holiday in the Bavarian Alps.... Auch das ist auch mit der schönen sweetheart, eine warme Feuer, mit guten weinerschnitzel und eine Vielzahl von Warsteiner Bier.:beer:drool
Some of us old farts remember when VW's used to have bumper stickers that said "You've just been passed by 36 hp!"
That really is a nice car and I remember those ski racks. It is amazing what a "cracker box" our old cars were. Very minimal in construction, short on comforts, completely unable to think on their own (no ECU) and we loved them. Jim
That brings back memories of my '57 that was black. I bought it from a "gray market" dealer on Belair Rd in Baltimore. He was a German who had contacts who shipped whatever he needed. The waiting list for a new VW through the dealership was over a year, so I thought, "Why wait". The '57 had less than 1000 miles on it. After waiting 14 months I got a new '58 VW for $1610 including tax and tags. Sold the '57 to private party for $1500. I remember those numbers because I've never seen anything like that since. What memories!
Sadly you never will. The Army use to give you $2000.00 every time you re-enlisted. The old jingle went "Re-up and buy a brand new car". Jim
