I wonder what they're hiding with the pixelation on the in-car shots. Some sort of display, but what do they think they need to hide?
I'm glad to see the Sabine Schmitz, the "Queen of the 'Ring" will be driving in this weekend's race in a Chevy Cruze - it will be interesting to see if her local knowledge can trump the faster cars of other drivers.
I've been looking through the live timing results from qualifying and I can't find a Cruze anywhere. Also, there are two Schmitz' listed, both as Porsche drivers, a GT3 R (#30) and a 911 Carrera, (#162). Maybe she's in one of those? https://livetiming.tracktime.info/nurburgring#screen-results
A few months ago a GT3 car caught air, flipped and flew and at least one spectator died (I don't remember specifics). They moved a few spectator area limits and established a couple speed limits. Fast forwarding to today, some teams decided their rev limiters were too stressing and told their drivers to control speed manually in those areas and now two of them will be stripped of their best qualifying lap times because they broke one or more speed limits. This includes the second place BMW (#25).
Speed limits on a track that's strange concept for sure. Knee jerk reaction to the spectator death? Once you move the spectators why the speed limit???
I assume it's to eliminate the possibility of more cars taking off like poorly made airplanes. I think I read the limits may be temporary and lifted if/when they come up with a more permanent solution. They've even mentioned reprofiling those rises, cutting down the peaks. Originally I read of rumors they would force changes to the design of the GT3 cars during the off season but that might not happen given this appears to be just a Nurburgring issue.
Seems to me making changes to the cars would be the way to do it. Don't want anyone hurt or the character of the track. I hate to see a historic course changed.
Live video stream is supposed to be available tomorrow here: [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkYITD0mNEE"]43. ADAC Zurich 24h-Rennen 2015 Livestream - YouTube[/ame] Also possibly here and here. Race starts at 1600 CET. I think that's 1200 EST...but for some reason I'm having trouble converting so I'm not certain.
The live timing results will also show the other classes racing at the Ring at other times, so that would explain no Cruzes. Qualifying FIA WTCC results in brief
I saw that after I posted. I didn't know they were running a separate race the same weekend and assumed at first that she was driving a Cruze in one of the slower classes along with the Hyundais, etc.
Live stream is working well for me. Wish it was HD, I'd flip it to my TV instead of a browser window.
Fairly good coverage, though. You always see disconnects when the Radio Le Mans guys are commenting over a feed that has its own broadcast crew, pit lane interviews, etc, but they've done this sort of thing so often it gets smoother all the time. Where it can begin to get a bit boring for me is after dark when the crews providing the video usually switch off around most of the track leaving only a couple static pit lane views. Those who are used to getting most of their endurance racing via audio only (Radio Le Mans fans) will clearly not mind that but I like to watch so it gets a bit dull for me. HD would be better, yes, but this is a heck of a lot better than nothing.
Why is there only one SCG 003 starting? [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYCOYojhWHI"]Hard CRASH Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus 003 #40 24H Rennen Nürburgring 2015 Nordschleife - YouTube[/ame]
Yup. Too damaged to repair for the race. They were in their own separate class, SP-X, so now no matter where the other one finishes they can claim that car ran first in class from start to finish. Looks like the remaining copy, #9, is running 16th overall so probably still on the lead lap.
Depending on how one looks at the lap data. For instance. Currently the SCG 003c is 2:55:xx behind the leader. Yet the leader is on lap 38 while the SCG is listed on lap 37. Heh, that little fireworks show was funny.
