Here's hoping the DPi cars are interesting. Haven't heard, yet, whether anyone is planning to run a standard ACO/FIA homologated P2 instead.

Look who signed on for the GT Daytona class for 2017

Mercedes-AMG is coming to the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in 2017.

Mercedes-Benz USA and Mercedes-AMG unveiled its plans on Wednesday morning to join the IMSA WeatherTech Championship. Riley Motorsports will race two Mercedes-AMG GT3 cars in the GT Daytona class.

One of the team's cars will run as AMG-Team Riley Motorsports, and the other as WeatherTech Racing.

Additional teams are expected to race the Mercedes-AMG GT3 cars as customer teams.

That's strange, I thought the GTD equivalent cars were GT4, not GT3...maybe I'm thinking about GT4s in PWC.

The best I have it figured out
IMSA has GT LeMans, which are a class to themselves. The GT Daytona cars are GT3s. Continental GS cars are GT4s.
PWC GT cars are GT3s. GTS cars are GT4 cars.

Ford also released a GT4 Mustang that is just about the same as the GT 350 R C. The customer car should more Mustangs running in Continental and PWC

I checked all the regs and you're mostly right. But IMSA GT Le Mans cars (GTLM) are GTE equivalent.

IMSA specifically requires cars to be homologated by either IMSA or FIA as GTEs, GT3s or GT4s, but PWC "allows" GT3 and GT4 cars to participate in classes already define by PWC regulation. So, as long as you conform to PWC regs you can race in their classes without an FIA/ACO-defined class homologation.

I thought they said at the last race that PWC was going just GT3 and GT4 for 2017. Maybe I heard wrong.

It's possible what I saw was from 2016 and they haven't updated info on their site yet for 2017.

Looks good... too bad they have to run the ugly vertical stabilizers though. They should figure out a way to make them clear so they get the aero benefit without the ruining the look of the cars.

Regarding other IMSA news... I want to see more pics of the mid-engine 911, inside and out! :yesnod:

I agree, I want to see a LOT of that car, but I'm also conflicted. Building a mid-engined race car and calling it a 911 while the 911 is still strictly a rear-engined production car is a controversial move. I wonder how the various series' regs allow that. What class(es) do they expect it to qualify for/fit?
