He did express interest in getting back into F1 but he also said it would not be with a team. That doesn't leave a lot of options...

I guess we can take Germany off the schedule.

Hockenheim confirms no German GP in 2017 (gpupdate.net)
Quote:
20:19 – Hockenheim circuit chief Georg Seiler has confirmed that there will not be a German Grand Prix next year, with talks failing to produce an agreement, meaning the season is now set to run over 20 races.

Hockenheim was given a provisional slot on the 2017 calendar, but the track quickly stated that it would only host the event again under certain financial conditions.

After lengthy talks, Seiler stated on Thursday that Hockenheim has not struck a deal with Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone, and that it will thus drop off the roster.

"There was no offer which excluded all of the economic risks," Seiler is quoted as saying by German publication Auto Bild, as he addressed the Grand Prix's future.

"This is disappointing, but it's not a surprise, especially since the Grand Prix was subject to confirmation and there was no deal for Formula 1 at Hockenheim."

Earlier this month, Ecclestone admitted the race was in doubt.

"There is nothing sure yet," he told the official F1 website.

"We are trying to make it happen. It seems that the promoter can't make it financially viable. They cannot pay a fee, which is a very reduced fee that we've done for them…

"It is not fair that they should pay a fee which is a lot less than the other European venues pay. We are trying to keep all the Europeans at the same amount."

He added: "Maybe they don't want Formula 1.

"It is very strange if you see their Formula 1 history – with several World Champions and a very successful team. I don't know what more they could have."

Pretty darn sad if there is only 19 races next year..

Somebody needs to hold a pillow over Bernie's face so this nonsense can end.. The cost to play is way too high and venues know Bernie cannot be reasoned with.

Try not to get too excited about the new for 2017 tires. Whether they'll help performance or just look good depends on Pirelli's construction and compounds.

Yeah, that list in post #1 was misnumbered. I fixed it. There are 21 on the list and if Germany falls off it will drop to 20.

Interestingly, the closest thing I can find to an official (though still provisional) calendar 1) still includes Germany but 2) Canada and Brazil have the same "subject to confirmation" asterisk as Germany.....

The new calendar has Germany dropped and a few races' dates shifted, possibly to avoid a schedule conflict with the Le Mans 24h.

I'll update post #1 in a few minutes.

There were actually a number of date changes.

Azerbaijan through Hungary were all moved later by a week to make some room in mid-June and avoid that Le Mans conflict. Because Germany was dropped, this still leaves room for the summer break for most of August.

Singapore and Malaysia swapped dates.

Mexico was moved to be a back-to-back with the USGP rather than with Brazil.

Mercedes Benz is expressing their gratitude for winning by giving away a car if you can beat a video game on their website.

Not yet official, still interesting.

French GP poised for surprise F1 return in 2018 (motorsport.com)
Quote:
By: Jonathan Noble, Formula 1 Editor

The French Grand Prix could make a surprise return to the Formula 1 calendar in 2018, with plans for a race at Paul Ricard set to be revealed on Monday.

While several historic races like Germany and Brazil are fighting for their future, France could be set to return to the schedule after a 10 year absence.

According to a report on Europe 1, the event could be organised with the help of several local authorities, including Provence-Alpes-Côtes d'Azur region, the Var department and the city of Toulon.

The contract would cover five seasons, running from 2018 to 2022.

No official announcement has yet been made to confirm the return of the event, but a press conference has been scheduled for next week.

The conference, regarding the future of the French GP, will take place at the premises of the Automobile Club de France in Paris, in the presence of Nicolas Deschaux, head of the FFSA, and Christian Estrosi, president of the regional council of PACA.

The French GP has not been taken place since 2008, when it was hosted at Magny-Cours, in Nevers. The Paul Ricard Circuit has already held the event on 14 occasions between 1971 and 1990.
