:cornut: My Margi(08 BRG R56 MCS/JCWm) recently in a fender bender but completely drivable post accident and showing NO code lights, went to the body shop(MINI doesn't do body work) and is now in great pre accident condition. Because of a scrape on the passenger front wheel, they realigned the front end. She drives just like before. On the straights I can let go of the steering wheel and she continues in a straight line. Since bringing her home I get the light code(shown above, thank you to #1 grandson) on the Tachometer face every time that I start her up. It lasts briefly and goes away only to return when the engine is started again. I checked codes with my 'ScanGauge II' and it says, no codes. I went through my owner's manual that shows all(supposedly)of the 'light codes' and this one is not listed. Is anyone familiar with it or can they find it. It appears to be telling me that Margi is higher on one side that the other but I'd like to see the explanation in hard copy such that I'll know what I'm talking about when I take her back to the alignment shop. Handling performance is normal except the steering is 'twitchy' at or about 110mph (no warnings needed here, I already know what you're going to say). No noises coming from wheels or suspension. What and Where is the code explained please.:confused5::confused5: Jason De Oppresso Libre
OK.... It's your MINI telling you if you keep driving her at 110 mph you are gonna get sucked right out through the sunroof.... Now stop doing that.. Here's the fix.... Soooooo.... get your #1 grandson... Put him in the passenger seat.... Put your right hand over your heart and repeat "I will not drive faster than my age" Do this for 30-45 seconds while holding your sunroof button down so it goes through it's sequence.... But it's real important to repeat the mantra with the grandson in the MINI... Don't try and shortcut this procedure.... As far as Margi being higher on one side.... Cut back on the taco's....
Need to find someone with BavTech, AutoEnginuity w/Mini extension, etc. who can plug up and see what it's really doing. These tools can see MANY BMW-specific codes / errors / conditions that the scangauge and other generic ODB scan tools can not. Dealer scan tool can do the same thing... but it will cost you. That's the "no-guesswork" way to narrow it down.
The MINI has a sunroof fail safe so you don't cut body parts off when the sunroof closes. I suspect the operation sequence has changed perhaps if the top was manually closed. Needs to be operated through the programmed sequence and the fail safe should reset itself....
I thought it was never drive slower than twice your age. Maybe that's why I know all the police officers in my town. A couple have driven the Mini and I raced one. I'm a bad influence. Sorry I can't help Jason but the taco advice sounds good. Come to thank of it maybe I should lay off the biscuits :biggrin5:
:cornut: Thanks Metalman but this can't be done at the present time as the electric motor only operates in the open the moon roof mode. The motor is not working in the close moon roof mode. But thanks for telling me what the light means. Jason
:cornut: Okay Metalman I did exactly as instructed and still, the motor opens the moon roof windows but will not close them. They must be manually cranked closed. Thanks for trying.:mad2: Scottinbend, joking or serious, I don't have Xenon lights at all Jason
Exactly???? Was #1 grandson sitting in the passenger seat??? Exactly??? Right hand over the heart? Say the mantra? Exactly??? Here is a similar posting on the Bimmer forum... Can't seem to find the MINI specific one I found this morning... It's out there in the ethernet... You need to Search and Destroy.... If this happens to YOUR sunroof... That's not to say there isn't something else wrong with your sunroof....
Serious......when you get the Xenon's, the car comes with a level sensor to make sure you aren't blinding the oncoming cars. Was just wondering if the Gen 2 cars had an error light for this.
Make sure there isnt anything in the sunroof track.....leaves dirt small army men from the grandkids....
:cornut: That was a 35lbs Mega Raccoon who did a suicidal 1 1/2 gainer swan dive under the passenger side bumper @ 60mph and took out the oil cooler, intercooler, a/c condenser, and the radiator. A fitting triumph of man/machine vs beast. Believe me, everything went under and through MINI Margi. Nothing went over her. However I have cleaned and lubed all tracks, contact points, and hinge points where possible. Still only opens electronically and must be closed with great effort manually with 5/32 allen wrench. I'll take time to think this through and in the mean time just ,'drive on soldier, drive on'. Jason
