      Hey Terry, just saw your message. I used an Autometer gauge, don't remember the part number, but it goes up to 300*F. I installed the sending unit when I had pulled the oil pan to replace a leaking gasket. It's not that hard, just drill a pilot hole in the aluminum pan and cut the NPT threads. The trick is not to cut too far - NPT is tapered. Mine sits directly below the positive battery terminal mount on the airbox. That way I can snake the wire in behind the airbox and through the firewall.

      I don't like random wires in the engine bay, too much heat on track days, so I insulated mine with vacuum hose. I used heat shrink where the tubing fits over the sender under the car to protect from dirt and grime, too. The tubing runs up through the engine bay, past the airbox, and up through the firewall.

      Hope that helps! Oil pan temps are about as accurate as you'll get. The ECU measures at the oil filter, which is a little bit cooler.
