Found on BaT. 1965 Austin Mini Cooper S Race Car
This Austin Mini Cooper was reportedly converted to a race car in the mid-1980’s and vintage raced in the Southeastern region until the 1990’s. In 2005 the car was sold its previous owner in San Francisco, California, who disassembled it prior to selling it to the current owner. A rebuild was completed in early 2017 and the car has since competed at an SVRA event at Indianapolis Raceway in June 2017, where it won a pair of Class-1 races. Power is from a race-prepped 1314cc inline-four paired to a straight-cut dog-box 4-speed manual gearbox. Modifications include a reinforced front sub-frame, adjustable lower suspension arms, Spax adjustable shocks, competition Hawk brake pads, and more as detailed below. Additional equipment includes a custom build roll-cage, a Butler Built racing seat, and a Fuel Safe cell. This Mini is now being offered near Minneapolis, Minnesota with a current annual SVRA inspection, six American Racing tires on aluminum wheels, and a bill of sale.
The Mark 1 body is reportedly original and includes the factory steel doors with pockets, trunk, and hood. A glass windshield is fitted, along with a plastic rear window, and side window’s. During the build, the front sub-frame was bead blasted and reinforced by boxing the front section and TIG welding the seams, corners, and other stress areas prior to being powder coated. Jack points were installed to the rear sub-frame corners. According to the seller, the body was repainted in the late 1980’s.
