Hello, Here is a little background information about my mini s mayfair automatic 88,500km. In 2012 it was in a car accident where the front bumper and headlights was smashed. The car became a write off and has since been rebuilt and back on the road. It has been driving like a charm up until recently. For about a month and half I have noticed it reving high and taking longer than usual to to shift gears. Since I don't know much about mini cooper engines, or engines in general, I decided to get MINI to take a look at it. They told me my trans wiring harness connectors are broken and covered in trans fluid and that my oil pan needs repair. On top of that they said I need a new transmission. While they had it I got them to do some required maintenance on it as well. Since I got it back I have found that if I give my mini enough warm up time (2-5 mins) the car seems to shift almost normal again. Only problem is it kind of sluggish to start and doesn't shift after going up hills still. My question is would I really need a new transmission or could my problem be solved by replacing the valve body and trans wiring harness connectors? Some advise or suggestions would help. Thanks :biggrin5:
Broken connectors & a bent pan. I'm wondering if you need to call your insurance agent. Bet those were damaged in the accident. I'd sure try all of the cheap fixes before buying a new transmission. Good luck.
Dealer always wants to sell you a brand new something, whatever happened to fixing things these days? Definitely call your insurance because that's part of the accident. It's always best to take care of it fast before the liability shifts to you. My Mini is getting the left rear quarter panel repainted after almost three months of having the entire car repainted because they failed to remove the color coated ring that goes around the chrome cap to the gas tank. Gas, rainwater got under the paint line causing it to peal. I feel better that I have a lifetime warranty on my paint job.
You guys are forgetting about this part of the issue. The car became a write off and has since been rebuilt I don't think insurance will cover any of it.
