Saw this announcement purportedly from MINIUSA INC. Passing it on for you: MINI asks drivers to hang up the keys and not drive on June 5th
I heard in passing, someone talking about this...... Um, how am I supposed to get to work? Walk? 17 mi, uh no. I don't think so. Take the day off? I've already had to deal with a pay cut. I don't think that will be happening either.
Would love to participate except we are having a meet n eat at the Columbia SC Chapter of Mini Motoring Club of the Carolinas. When it comes to food with my fellow MINIManics they win.
Won't be partaking in this either, unless MINI hires an alternative transport for my 36 mile commute.
Not crazy about the idea of spending the night in the airport terminal, so I think I'll be motoring home that day. Maybe I'll commit to trimming a few mph off the highway speed for better mpg as my contribution to the cause. :aureola:
No can do. I'll be driving the Jetta to Vegas for Wustefest and the frau will be following in her MINI. Big Euro car show at the Palace Station Hotel of all places. It is going to be AMVIV deja vu
I already work from home and have cut my carbon footprint quite a bit. I go for days without leaving the house but of course Friday I have an appointment that requires the MINI.
I'd say Tuls' 1% participation guess is too high. It's a PR stunt at best. Ought to be something a bit more practical (and realistic) like maybe "Park your gas guzzler and drive your MINI instead" day.
I got a laugh at how some other site latched on and is trying to look involved. Lets NOT MOTOR Day - brought to you by "that other site" and MINI! Please pass the boots...it's getting deep.
I will hang up Poco's keys that day, so Lois can use him, as her keys will be hanging by the back door so I can take the Clubman that day:lol: Mark
i'll be driving about 50 miles that day out to my parents garage to install my new DT BPV.......sorry Earth!! Steve
I may take the day off and clear that stand of old growth timber behind my house and while I'm at it, I may finally get around to burning that big old stack of tyres too...thanks MINI! :aureola:
This just really isn't a very practicle event. Maybe if you lived in an urban area and could take public transportation. But like many of you said, I can't afford to take a day off work so as not to drive that day! LOL
yeah no. 35 miles one way. [rant] plus honestly I'm not buying into the idea that me not driving my mini one day is going to offset the amount of energy wasted by "green" organizations trying to save the world when a lot of the "green" things done these days is worse than what its replacing (cfl bulbs full of mercury, toyota prius that waste more resources in production than a land rover and get worse mileage than a vw diesel etc.) [/rant]
I don't have to go to work tomorrow, the 5th. So I'm going to make a few runs in my MINI down a twistie road to look for free rocks for our garden. Figure I'm doing my part by not paying the local garden center having to ship rocks:crazy::lol: Mark
I'm off work tomorrow, so what the hell - I'll give it a shot. No promises, though! I've got a 150cc Vespa that is very stingy on gas, but I must confess that it hasn't left the garage since I brought the MINI home a couple weeks ago. Tomorrow might be a good day for a ride!
Am I the only one that cares about the ecology? Am I the only one that cares that our Earth is being kilt slowly by lots of Minis zipping to and fro? Am I the only one who's car will be in the shop cuz the gd tensioner failed, belt taking out the cv boot, possibly causing an overheat and a head gasket? Well? Huh? Well? AM I????? You people have no sense of responsibility!!!!!
If it makes everyone feel better, my MINI is parked today. Has been for the past almost 2 weeks. I have had to drive my S10 though. Oh, wait, it gets 21mpg vs the MINI's 27 (avg on both). Oh well...... Nice comment on the diesel, btw.
I'm off to get a boot full of free rocks for the garden. My secret rock pile is closer than the garden place that sells rock. I figure I'm using less gas, does that count:smilewinkgrin: Mark
