So, I purchased a 2008 MINI with very low miles (10,200) and no maintenance. It took three weeks to get the title and tag. During that time I was able to read about all the fun N14 engine "features" - Timing Chain issues, burning water pumps, Vacuum pumps that trash an engine if they lock. Anywho.... Now the car has seen it's first oil change and the engine is not too tickety. Then again, how would I know. It's not like I've heard any other MINI engines in person. YouTube has been valuable for learning about timing chain sounds though. So far I've removed the dreadful armrest and replaced the stock side scuttles as the car only had one checkered scuttle. After making the purchase, it was a couple days before I could pick up the car. The PO appears to have tried to rip the hood scoop off the car. The middle mount broke, cracked the chrome and caused a pronounced hump in the scoop. So the factory blue scoop is back on the car now. The hood was too busy with chrome scoop anyway. PCV blanking caps and a new timing chain tensioner are on order. The car is GREAT fun to drive and it really has some cojones. I was very surprised. The stereo is not quite as good as expected but probably has settings I've not found yet.
Welcome to M/A & congrats on a nice blue clubman. All cars have their faults. Not every car will have those faults, far from it. Keep up on the service & enjoy the ride.
