Hi all! My name is Wayne, and I'm an R50 addict. (crowd replies ,"hi Wayne".) I have wanted one since i was a kid, but never in my life did I think I'd ever be able to do it. I'm now 51. I guess that makes it possible to throw caution to the wind! I bought mine on Ebay after several long discussions with the seller about her. Sometimes things that sound too good to be true usually are. But, well, I did all the due-diligence I could. Then I finally swallowed hard, took the plunge, flew to Newark and picked her up. It was love at first sight! :drool The drive home (Iowa) was one long, high-speed roller-coaster ride, interrupted only by toll booths along I-80. My cheeks hurt by the time I got home due to all of the grinning. :biggrin5::biggrin5::biggrin5: For a car with 130k miles on the clock, she looks nearly new, and rides and drives the same. I have owned manuals before, but this 5-speed is really FUN. :cornut: That was three weeks ago. What was the first thing I did? Went online and started trying to figure out how to buy and make modifications to her! ut: hahahahahaha... I guess that is a common symptom of this addiction we all carry around. It spent a couple of days in the closest dealership to me (Des Moines) getting the AUX JACK installed, my spare key 'mated to the car' and boot struts replaced. I could have done the boot struts and probably the AUX jack too, but its winter here and I didnt want to wait til Spring. Got the car back and it is just amazing. I love this thing! I have also ordered an ALTA PERFORMANCE set of driving lights I'll install myself when the weather gets good, and I have new, aftermarket tail lights that I'll put on this weekend. I have the same dreams as you all, too.... stripes, more badges maybe (so many things to say) and now to try and balance my 'fun time' between this new love of mine, and my Harley Davidson. My wife and I love them both, so at least I have that in my favor. Here are a couple of pics... As time goes on, more will show up, i'm sure. Anyway, hopefully I wont throw financial caution totally to the wind. Please help me. But, I'm glad to be here. But, I have a couple of questions: [] is a "Justa" a plain-jane R50 (i.e. non-S)? Never heard that term before. [] is there a cure for this disease we have, or is 'therapy' the only answer?
Heh Heh Heh.... Jim, you're killin me.... Jim.... I just spit out my coffee..... Welcome to M/A.... It's a fun place....
Welcome to M/A. Derived from phrases like "It's not an S, it's just a Cooper." Thus Justa Cooper, Justa for short. Has nothing to so with modifications, just means it wasn't born with a supercharger or turbocharger. A term used by those who see the Cooper as a lesser car -- in a derogatory way by some -- and at the same time proudly and defiantly embraced by those of us who love our Coopers. I'm from the latter group, I bought my MC new in '02 and I'm still addicted. Welcome to the madness but watch out, it's easy to go overboard. I've spent roughly as much on mods, accessories and associated gear/goods as the car cost new.
I do not see it as a derogatory term at all. I think it's cute, justa like all MINI's are be they S's or Justa's they are all good. A Justa will corner as well as an S & to my thinking that is where the fun comes from. Did a track day a year or so ago & a Justa was lapping a fellow in his modded S. I like the S too, but it is not needed to have fun. Welcome to M/A & enjoy your new MINI!
I did say some use it in a derogatory way, and you know that's true even if it's a minority. For everyone else it's a term of endearment and most of us Justa owners take it (and use it) in exactly that sense.
I saw your some Steve. Justa wanted people to know I do not feel that way. I use that term a lot. No harm no foul. Sadly you are correct about some people. I once met a classic Mini owner who went on & on about my car not being British. Him >:incazzato: Me > Like Mom said it takes all kinds.
Holy Kittens..... I never would have considered my banter with Justa Jim as derogatory. I'm hoping Jim doesn't see it that way. If so, my apologies in advance.....
Oh yea. You will find no ill will here from the M O M (mid Ohio motoring) crowd for a justa owner. I too am a justa owner and have never felt like I was not welcomed. This a great place to hang out and learn/enjoy MINIs. Welcome to the addiction.
The other fun-machine. This is my wife and I on my 96 Sportster. I like to live life to the fullest. :cornut:
