Wondering if there are any groups of Indiana/Michigan/Ohio Minis driving I-75 south to MOTD? We will be catching I-75 around St Mary's, OH on April 27th. Haven't decided on a time yet and we are interested in convoying with anyone else leaving Monday. We have made the trip to Gatlinburg many times before so should be similar. We will actually be driving through to Bryson City as of right now unless lodging changes but would love to hang with other Miniacs on the drive down if possible. If you are on the route and interested - hit us up here!!
I am. I live in Piqua and plan to leave around 9 AM, so I can beat the morning rush thru Dayton and Cincinnati, grab some lunch in Corbin, KY, and still pass thru Knoxville before the afternoon rush hour. Hopefully, I'll get checked in by around 6 PM. I take US 129 South out of Maryville to Deals Gap, make the jog onto NC 28 South and head to Fontana. After I turn into Fontana Village, YOU will stay on 28 to US 74. Turn LEFT onto US 74 East towards Bryson City and your lodging.
Sounds good wmwny! I'll PM you and see if we can hook up. We can definitely be in Piqua by 9:00 and we wouldn't be opposed to getting an earlier start even. One of my suppliers is actually based in Piqua - Emerson/Copeland! Any other takers out there??
I'll be hitting I-75 in Cincy coming out of Columbus around 7:00 AM Wednesday morning pulling into Fontana around noon.
Leaving C'bus at 5:00 coming through Cincy at 7:00 and arriving Fontana at noon is running the speed limit.
Leaving Detroit Monday morning if you want to switch a day. We will be driving with a dozen MINI's or so.
Sounds like Monday is a go. Hotel is now booked for extra day. I got Monday off of both jobs. Now just waiting on reply from my wife's work for extra day off. Pretty sure it won't be a problem. :cornut:
The OP asked that the title be changed from Tuesday to Monday. So it has been requested, so it has been fulfilled.
Leaving at 5 AM should get him to Fontana when he says, but I'm pretty sure the restaurant won't even be open yet when he blows in! He drives by HIS speed limit! :eek6:
Don't know what people are harping about. I've done the drive a few times in the rain on carpy tires for the conditions in like 7 hours. It's not a difficult drive at all. The roads are good and if one avoids the built up areas during "drive times" it's really quite relaxing.
I am NOT harping at all. However, I DO know about having been passed at warp speed by some MINIAC in a black Roadster on I-270 on the way to Tim's awhile back, so, pardon me if I can only imagine what his normal speed limits to MOTD are!
Welshy gets there in about 8 hours. He usually stops in Corbin at lunchtime for some BBQ before continuing on to Fontana. yes, Welshy goes more slowly, but if you suffered from the eye problems that have plagued me, you'd slow it down, too. Trust me...seeing 4 cars that come down to ONE, instead, is no fun at all. Now, TRY to imaging having that sensation as you drive thru the Dragon...:frown2:
