Are the door seals covered in the warranty?

Did you get the extended warranty?

Are your seals a little crusty on the surface? Aren't sealing too well.....

 

The warranty covered my mirror caps when they faded. Sooooo... worth a shot I'd say.

 

Don't think anything but RUST is covered by the 10 year (was made a 10 year warrenty in 2005+)...
There are a couple other warranties on a few items....but I don't think any cover any trim or other rubber items like weather stripping....heck having the rubber "beltline" dry rot and chip is a common issue on the cabriolets.....

 

10 year 100,000 factory warranty? Maybe on the emissions, but not everything else?

 

No kidding! It's ridicules how fast that piece of trim goes bad :mad5:

 

Except for rust, the basic warranty is 4 years, 50K miles. There have been only a few items involving safety or emissions where MINI extended the warranty, to avoid doing a full blown recall.

 

Cars age....
Warranties end....
And rather than car payments....you get to buy carparts!!
Still cheaper than a new car though....
But some items....you can learn to live with...replacing each and every imperfect item on an older car can get $$$$…......

 

Soapsuds on the door sill plates and jambs not caused by bad seals, if you look you'll notice the seal is inboard of the sill plate, it's supposed to be able to drain water away there.

Take a towel and just wipe it down.....

The original factory warranty on all MINIs is 4 years or 50K, whichever comes first. The only way you'd have a 10 year/100K is if you bought an extended warranty - which is not issued by the factory but by some third party company. Whether they'd cover them is up to the terms of that warranty contract.

 

... and if "soap suds get in the door jamb" means that the suds actually come through the door jam to the inside of the seal... it's still not a "problem" if you're in a high pressure carwash (e.g. brushless).

The seals are meant to keep out rain and wind... NOT a pressure washer aimed directly at them. If a seal that leaked in a pressure carwash was a defect, every cabrio owner would have returned their car when new.

Now, if it's a brush-type wash, why the heck are you swirling your paint!?!?!

 

Also hand wash your car and don't use the drive thru washes because they are scratch machines.

 

I get soap on my door jambs all the time.... Doesn't mean my door seals are bad..... The doors seals are inboard of the jambs.... The seals would be bad if soapy water was getting into the cabin....

 

It seems MINIUSA has increased rust warranty in current models to 12 years/unlimited mileage, but basic warranty for everything else is still 4 years/50K miles.
