Hey it’s me again, lol All is now well, but for a while now I’ve had an odd battery issue, and wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this. My battery is only 2 years old, I’ve had the charging system checked at multiple places including AutoZone and Pacific Power Batteries. They tell me my battery, alternator and starter all check out. But.....if I leave the door open for even a few minutes (like to vacuum out the interior) I get a low battery/discharge alert on the nav screen. And it will flat out kill the battery to where the car won’t turn over! Is this common? Do I just need one of those battery tenders I see offered for mini’s? This is something I have learned to live with for now, but it bothers me to no end. Anyone else have this issue? And what was the cure? Thanks! And I swear, this is truly the last issue I have! Everything else right now is roses. I was going to go buy a new battery until they told me I did not need a new one. But something is discharging it and I’m lost on this. No codes and everything now checks out ok on scanning the car
I’ve not had those issues, and they aren’t normal, but I can tell you that I’ve been told I had a good battery by otherwise experienced people when I didn’t. I don’t really trust battery testers anymore, except the guys at a specialist garage. I can also tell you that low batteries cause all sorts of weird things in any car made in the last 10 years or so.
Thanks, I was kind of curious myself, because the battery will only seem to carry about a 60% charge anymore. I think I would be smart to just go ahead and replace it anyway. Costco has one for it for only around $120 and I can register it myself now with my Schwaben tool, so if that includes install I may just do it tomorrow morning while I’m filling some prescriptions there, since I’ll already be there.
100% agree with @Zapski. I have not had that problem. It may be time for a new battery and hay you get to use that new tool you bought. It’s a win win! I hate to tell you this but you should not have said this is the last problem, you are just asking for trouble

Well I’m sitting here at Les Swab, they are going to test the battery and tell me if it needs replaced. The one at Costco is about $80 cheaper, but not vented the way that they are supposed to be, so.....we’ll see what they say..... ????
Yeah, I was ready to buy one this morning, but they had no clue about it needing to be vented, and didn’t have one that would. So I have an appointment tomorrow morning at 9:00am to have a Bosch battery with a 96 month warranty installed. The guy at PepBoys (I know, I know) knew exactly what I was talking about and the computer had a specific note about it. So I felt better about going that route even though it’s a few $ more.
Duncan is in the bay right now getting a new battery. Pretty funny though as everyone here is a bit skeptical about me being able register the new battery, since they can’t, they don’t believe that I can, lol....I really hope I do this right and don’t embarrass myself here! Ha ha!
See above post about embarrassment, lol. Ok, so they put the battery in the car, pulled it up front and said “ok, your turn, do the registration thing” so I’m like “yeah, sure no problem! On the way out to the car the mechanic says “I don’t know man, none of your dash lights or tachometer or anything is working!” So of course, I’m like “well it’s probably just the intelligent battery system, no worries.” Then: FATE STRIKES AGAIN! I go out there, unzip the bag and pull out my Schwaben tool......(keep in mind that they are all looking over my shoulder at this point because they don’t believe I can register it!) ..... so I hop in, pop in the key fob, turn on the ignition, plug in my scanner......and NOTHING! The scan tool won’t even turn on! What the heck? After wiping the egg off my face for a moment. I ignored the chuckles behind me and said I can figure this out! Then I remembered seeing a fuse labeled OBD in the passenger footwell fuse box. Pulled it and sure enough the 5 amp fuse had popped! Had him hand me a new one, put it in, and the scanner powered right up! Less than 2 minutes later I had the new battery registered! Then when I went to square up the bill, they were all impressed, and wanted to know what, where and how much I got it for! Ha ha! Even though it tested ok, it would not charge to more than 60% so I feel better having a new one in there regardless. Piece of mind is definitely worth a few bucks! Now onto the next project!! I want to see how “Dunk” looks with all the chrome and the wheels blacked out. So I’m going to do a little bit of coating with some Plasti-Dip to see how he looks. If I dig it, I’ll look for a more permanent solution. The wheels I think I could have powder coated if I like it, there is a place nearby, and an old friend works there. The chrome though, I’ll have to find a good alternative that lasts and doesn’t chip....unless the plasti-dip turns out well enough! I did a patch of chrome on my old Toyota pickup and a couple of weeks later, it actually looks pretty good! We’ll see....but it’s main appeal is ease of removal.
It really was fast and simple to do.....once it powered up, lol. It was so much blind luck that when I was looking for an airbag fuse the other day, I just happened to remember seeing one of the fuses labeled OBD. Otherwise it may have taken days to figure out, ha ha.
