I purchased the belt line black out tape from Out Motoring and learned a few things I'll pass along for others who might try it: 1. DO NOT attempt to apply this in the sun or when the belt line is hot. There is a plastic covering on the tape to keep it from streaching and it seperates with heat. Once this happens the tape becomes very unstable and can not be applied. 2. The plastic covering has to be removed after install, however this is almost impossible once on the car. I ended up cuting the strip a bit longer then I needed and carefully picked the cover lose from one end with a razor knife, just enough to get it started. Then applied tape, pulled the cover off and trimmed the end. Jim
I have not completed the black out and one side, under the rear window is half done. I am going to have a splice mark there, that I am not happy about, so a picture would not show anything nice. Let me get it finished and I'll post a picture. The tape is very thin, once the top cover is removed, which could be good or bad, I really don't knoow. How long it holds up is anyones guess. Perhaps there are others who have used it. Jim
Bought 150' roll of this stuff and have been happy with the results on my car for over 5 yrs now. And it was a heck of a lot cheaper!
So where do I get that???????? "This thread is worthless without fnformation or links" :mad2: BTW: I looked for that at Advance Auto first and they did not carry 3/4 inch. Jim
Both my MINI's have had the 3M tape on them through hot summers and cold Ohio winters...no problems at all. The trick to removing the outer clear cover after installation is to let it sit overnight and it will begin to separate. Once you have a separation bubble carefully prick it with an Xacto knife and it will peel off easily.
I told Out Motoring about my problem and they offered to send me some additional tape and add my comments to the instructions. Can't ask for more then that. Jim
I suppose they will edit out any cussing that may have occurred:lol:. That's great on their part. Mark
