As is not usual when I see my dentist Tim, a car guy with a history of Porsches in the garage, conversation turned to cars. After mentioning my recent purchase of, and enthusiasm for, my Mini Cooper he related part of a conversation he had had with Bobby Rahal, in which he asked what was his favorite car to drive. His answer: a Mini Cooper. And that is with a sweet livery of cars too! The following link will take you to a Car and Driver article from 2003 which has a garage photo featuring several cars including a Classic Mini and commentary on a young (21) Danica Patrick. The article also states: "He (Bobby Rahal) arrived in a red-and-white Mini Cooper S." Yeah, Bobby and me have similar tastes... A Foot in Each Camp – Feature – Car and Driver
The Chili Red MINI S was Graham's car. His best friend David, (I withhold his last name to protect the innocent) a shifter cart racer who also had an R53, and Graham we're known to make some very spirited runs throughout Delaware County after high school classes let out. Another reason I have always liked Graham Rahal (and of course, his Dad too).
Interesting comments about Danica and Lewis Hamilton, considering how young they were when this was written. also interesting what he says about F1.....so do you all think turbo cars are the way to lower the budget and dumb the cars down?
This was recently on Motorweek. [ame=http://youtu.be/ppfR4DoiO2o]Tire Tracks: Autobahn Country Club - YouTube[/ame] You can see SOme of Bobby's cars at his Autobahn garage in Joliett. There is a MINI back there.
Funny how things work out. I went to high school with Bobby, and my first ride in a Porsche was with him driving his dad Mike's red '66 911. Ironically, back then we drove down to the local Austin-MG dealer - but I've only just arrived at my first red MINI.
