I found that my bonnet micro-switch (figures out if the bonnet is latched properly or not) was not mounted properly to the bonnet latch... it looks like 2 ears have broken off of the plastic housing, so it won't stay put. If I don't get it installed, I'll have the 'door ajar' light on forever. This part is mounted on to the rear side of the passenger side bonnet latch. The hole it fits into is rectangular, so I don't know which way it is supposed to mount (and from looking at the latch, I could make an argument for either direction). Would one of you R53 owners please look at the sensor on your car and tell me if the wire plug (the lowest part of the pic, below) is on the top of the switch or the bottom when mounted? I took a photo of the switch, below, so you can see... the metal flap, when the switch is mounted, is inside the metal bonnet latch. I just don't know the correct orientation of the switch as mine was laying loose in the engine bay. A new switch is on the way.

Yeah... I thought about a bit of epoxy, but that just isn't my style. I've spent too much time trying to get Rufus sorted to cheap out on a dinky part like this. :D

Technically, I could just leave the switch unplugged and off of the car. I discovered today that, if you disconnect the switch, the default state is 'bonnet closed', so the door ajar light doesn't come on. If you leave the switch attached and dangling loose in the engine bay, however, the door ajar light comes on. It's a safety thing, though... so I'm gonna do it right.

Thank you for the photo. That is exactly what I needed.

Note: That sure is an interesting engine mount. I don't think I've ever seen one that includes a zip tie!

That is the early stock mount. It is way better then the oil filled ones. I’ll take a better picture of it tomorrow. I have always wonder if you could retro fit it.

It looks short compared to my '05 mount.

That cord comes on them not sure what it is for. The rubber is hard then you have a part that goes back to stop the motor from torquing. Its a great set up. I have looked at later models and it looked like the still had the holes to mount the torque bar.

Funny. I've always seen the mount in the back (handles the lateral movement) and never thought much about the lower one that handles the vertical (the one w/ the zip-tie). That is a much more complicated system than the '05-'06 models that I'm used to (and might explain why ours breaks all the freakin' time :D ).

The new switch arrived and, thanks to the photo above, I got it installed in just a couple of minutes. Thanks!
