When you apply the brakes on an incline with the clutch engaged they will delay 2 seconds after you remove your foot from the brake pedal before physical release of the brakes to give you time to engage the clutch and drive forward. If it's lost I assume that you just have to drive it like a REAL manual transmission.

The drive-off assistant is a component of DSC and makes it possible to drive off confortable on uphill slopes. It is not necessary to use the handbrake for this.

Hold the MINI in place by depressing the brake.
Release the brake and drive off immediately without delay
The drive off assistant holds the vehicle in place for approx. 2 seconds after the brake is released.

Depending on the vehicle load and the uphill gradient, the vehicle may roll backwards a little during this time. After releasing the brake, drive off immediately without delay. After approx. 2 seconds the drive-off assistant will no longer hold the vehicle in place and the car will start to roll backwards.

No marks are awarded to any of you for knowing your Mini terminology - brake assist is the emergency application of full braking force by the ABS system, not the hill-holder facility.

You can kiss goodbye the idea of a gold star for your exercise book today..... :prrr:

I was confused by the thread too. Isn't it called "hill assist"?

Actually, I find it rather handy. With most people driving automatics these days, they pull right up on your boot on a hill, never giving a thought you might have a manual and roll back a bit. :mad2:

^^ You two just can't deal with modern technology. I know how to use the hand brake and have fast feet too, am as old or older then you guys, but I like the hill assist. I grew you with bolt action rifles, but I really liked my machine gun. Some new stuff is just good.

Will there be much pulling of hair and tearing of clothing? Any chance this fight will be taking place in mud? Are tickets available?
